RE:OPENING DAY WAS VERY VERY ...
Geez . . . what an ugly sight to see the hook embedded! Makes me wince when I think of "laser sharps!"
I don't want to get pumelled for missing the point (LOL) , but ever since salmon became a barbless fishery (and I was stopped by fish cop and realized that I hadn't pinched my mooching leaders down after non-stop dogfish) I lean towards generally pinching all barbs with no apparent decrease in my landing success. I don't always pinch my crankbaits.
I hate catching a small fish and have it get away from me while I'm un-hooking it for release and get it's lip ripped up. I've torn perch lips pretty badly, and trout faces, and feel bad. They slip out pretty well if barbless.
ANYWAY . . not missing the point that that wound hurt big time and I hope infection isn't an issue.

Hope your finger/hand is healing up well Dez. Sorry to hear of the misfortune. Been pricked by hooks a bunch but never had one go in real deep like that.Fish Antics wrote:

I agree with Fish Antics. I pinch barbs almost exclusively now, with no decrease in hook to landed ratio. ALTHOUGH, it should be noted that I do not fish much for bass and when I do I don't pinch my barbs.
Back on track: Any pictures of fish Dez?

A Boga Grip is a good option for landing a fish that has a face full of treble hooks (or sharp teeth).
The built-in scale also comes in handy.

I saw that happen once, except I was at work. It was like slow motion. No, it wasn't me, but his name rhymes with Len Zeecher. I think it involved a half day at company medical, a trip to the hospital, and a report to the manager about “foreign object in finger”. I got a pair of forceps out of the deal.
I believe we had a staff meeting the next day about appropriate show & tell items.

The guy in my club that removed the hook , he did a great job and even had a first aid kit on the boat .. so i was able to clean it and treat the area that day . By the time i got of the lake i had forgot that it even happen . As of today looking at my finger i just have a small sore ..But other than that all is good .. ..
Im more proud of it than anything else , it's been in the back in my mind for years as to when this would happen and now the guessing game is over .. lol
BTW ..I HAVE A NEW FOUND RESPECT FOR "TROUBLE HOOKS" !! WE NOW HAVE A LOVE HATE REALTIONSHIP

I'm glad you’re OK. It could have been much worse.

Bragging may not bring happiness, but no man having caught a large fish goes home through an alley.
