good braided line

so we have three or four reels spooled with braided line, one was bought with used braided line and its the only line that casts good. the other three have new line and they dont cast all that great. does anybody know why that is? is it bad line or does it need to be broken in first? also what do some of you consider the best brand for braided line?

Hands down its Power Pro. Very consistent and and doesn't "feather" like a lot of braids do.

Do braids need to be broken in? Yes. The fibers do not take dyes well so some of the dye needs to come off before the line really is right. Braid is also very sensitive as to how it put on the spool. It needs to be put on with a good amount of tension to keep it from loosening, shifting, and ultimately digging into the spooled line underneath it. Once braid gets broken in its great stuff. Just don't use it for drift fishing as if it breaks on a snag it'll stay there forever fouling every other line that touches it.

Power Pro or Stren is pretty reliable. If your having difficulty casting with some it might be too heavy for your rod. Might need a new fishin' pole..Go to Auburn Sports& Marine. got some good ones there..oops I'm sorry didn't see you are in the TriCities. You can find them online...

There are a lot of good braids out there, and Power Pro is one of the better ones. Spider Wire is not what it use to be, Stren has different grades, but the Microfusion is pretty good. Technically not a braid, but Fire Line is also pretty good, especially the crystal.

While braids do benefit from a break in, I have not personally found that they are that bad without it. It is completely possible that the lines you have are old, or probably more likley just too heavy for the lures and rods you are using.

tell ya what years ago my grandpa made a trip back to Wisconsin and up into canada and did some northern pike fishin he used spider wire I think it was the only braid out at the time, he liked it. I cant stand tying a new rig on real fast with the stuff but it is strong.

Power pro all the way. The other brands were like casting waxy dental floss. I've had my 15 lb hi-vis yellow on for the last 3 seasons and works great. Good value too since your not having to change line every year...
