What are some good jig trailers...

Post by skimpy » Mon Mar 23, 2009 8:20 pm

Was wondering what everyone uses for trailers on flippin' jigs. I'm going to be stocking up for this year and just wanted some suggestions before I buy. Thanks

I had settled upon the Chigger Craw. The 4" can be used seperately on a shakey head. I then save mine and bite off a segment to use as a J/P trailer.

I give that one two thumbs up also. I use that one and Powerbait Chigger Craw. Granted I just began fishing with a jig and haven't hooked into a fish yet. But the wood cover seems to like them.
'course they don't have biscuits and gravy ... but if they did, I bet everyone would eat there.

I use Sweet Beavers, Double Tail and Hula Grubs and Brushhogs.
Go with the natural colors. I like watermelon or brown.
The Sweet Beavers I toss the most and use the 4.20 series on 1/2 or larger jigs and 3.5 series on anything smaller. My favorite color to add as a trailer for the Sweet Beaver is Coonasty. As far as the Brushhogs, I like to bite the larger ones in half and just use the back ends.
Don't ever rule out good ole' Uncle Josh's Pork Chunks either. They are time tested and mother approved.
I know you probably already stocked up on jigs for the year Skimpy, but I will tell you that Black/Blue has produced the most bass for me. Second to that would be Brown/Green. Hope you have a couple of them in your arsenal.

Towards the end of my Yamamoto Kreature baits life they seem to double well also as a jig trailer.

I almost always use Uncle Josh pork rinds when the water is below 60 degrees and plastics for water above 60 degrees. I perfer to use pincer look a likes in cotton candy, black, neon black, cammo, pumpkin seed and other medium dark colors. I will also use a white grub if I am swimming the jig as this really gets the basses attention. Remember size matters too when it comes to the jig. you want a really slow fall since 80% of your strikes come on the fall. I like to use a 5/16 ounce jig with a black and C tailed worm with a blue tail for every day fishing too. I think this is my favorite jig and worm set up. Enjoy
If you aren't catching fish it's becasue you don't have a hook in the water!
