Here is my quick take. Definitely change out the split rings to Owners. With the 7" Triple Trout, I prefer the ST-36's for smallmouth and I like to upgrade to the ST-41 2X hooks for largemouth.

Throwing the TT on the XC705 may be a little more work than throwing the bait with a 7'6"-8' "swimbait rod". However, you will love how this rod has a little give, allowing the fish to eat it a little better. Plus, it keeps hard fighting smallies pinned. This rod is so versatile that it will be appropriate for a variety of other techniques.

We've bent some 36s before is all, so just based on personal exp. I just don't think its worth downsizing to it from the 41s unless weight is an issue but we also never really go after smalls much so Tag's input is infinitely valuable if that is your game. (well, it is for largies as well but wateva lol)

Its not that the 36s are "weak", but that some fish are stronger... :eye: But a lot of guys do it up with gammies and VMCs and do just fine - I'd just prefer never to have to think about the hook going out on me (and ive heard some 41s bending out from some guys before as well!) and would hate to see someone else suffer the same fate. Actually Ive bent a smaller size st-41 before as well now that i think back but the fish didnt come off. the only complaint I've really seen about the owners are from people who don't like the nickel black finish but that can be easily remedied with some paint.

The stock hooks are just plain bad though so any gammie or owner you throw on there should be a lot better.

I tie direct to the TT most of the time but I have used a split ring on the bait before as well. Never use that clip that came with the bait - it is just for packaging purposes unless scott changed that up at some point.

x2 on tying directly to the Triple Trout. Forgot to include that in my last post.

When you think you know it all, its time to quit. Knowledge should be gained on every trip.

They make different types with various ROF'S,..this one os the FS Perch 6",..LMK!
