Has it finally happened?
I heard, from a fairly reliable source, that a 54" Tiger was caught this past week in Washington State!! I will be viewing a photo sometime this next week and will try to get as much info about the fish as possible. My main questions are whether it was caught by a chapter member and whether it was CPR'd. I will keep everyone posted as to what I find out. If this is true, it excites the bejeebers out of me!

RE:Has it finally happened?
I've heard this too. I have some doubts(not trash talking) I believe the world record is 54 inches and 51lbs. 3 ounces caught in Wisconsin.
I believe their has been a very big fish caught, maybe even 50 inches. I just have doubts if it was really 54. I hope we will see tiger sizes increase as time goes on. I'm very pleased with the 50 inch rule and as people become more aware and follow the law,I would expect our tigers become true trophy's.
I'm actually wishful that I'll be eating my own words. I'd love to know that we have some monsters out there.

RE:Has it finally happened?
I agree with kevin here, Everyone keeps saying they have seen a 50!
Yet, Knowone has caught it??
So what your telling me is the Biggest fish in the lake, dose not eat!
I hope there is a 50! I really do!
But if I ever catch one the first thing I do is take many pics and post it on a Mayfield report!
You can not tell how big a fish is when you just see it in the water!

This fishy came out of Newman Lake. I'm trying to track this lucky guy down to get his story. Maybe I can get him to post about it. Caught on a perch crankbait of the Rapala type. Looks pretty big to me; but 54 inches might be stretching the tape a bit. But that's just a better fish story is all....

Hey Muskie Guy, do you fish Newman often and what are some of the larger fish that you have heard of that have been caught out of Newman? Are there a lot is the upper forties or are they a rarity? I'm just curious because, I too think the fish looks a little short for 54". I'm told that Brian lives right in Newman Lake but I'm not sure how you can contact him.

Seen pictures of Kenster 49" true Musky. That one was nice. This Tiger looks close to that one. But, it could be legit. Look at the tail..looks pretty good which is uncommon for these ones. Nice fish though..congrats. Really butchered the name..muskee. Oh well, still a nice fish!

RE:Has it finally happened?
mtsiview: I don't work Newman over very often anymore. The boating traffic on this small lake is rediculous and I can avoid the head ache by hitting Silver. On the other hand, Newman is a good night fishing lake because of it's heavy boat traffic. It also gets active very early in the season because it's shallow and dark. So as soon as the ice is gone you can catch tigers out there. I've been seeing good numbers of upper 40's fish in Newman the last 3 years. Unfortunately a whole mess of them were taken out prior to the new 50 inch regulation by excitable anglers. I feel pretty guilty about that; I helped some of those people learn the basics and some good spots on the lake. Needless to say, I'm a bit more conservative about the information I give out. I need to locate the pic of the 51 incher I caught years ago, that would give us a good gauge to size the big ones up too. Ahhh screw it, I'll just run out and catch another real quick! LOL!!!! I didn't see any mention of it locally either. I just happened to see the pics when I went into the Newman Lake Resort to talk with the owners about having a muskie info and fishing day at their resort.

Well, now that we have had time to disect the slightly blury picture, I think that fish probably went the 54"'s he claims, it's just so darn skinny which leads me to believe that there is a lack of diet in the summer. Just looking at the tail as Todd points out, and comparing it to the fisherman's hand, tells me that is one hugh fish, IMO. If one was lucky enough to land that fish right now I'm sure it would be a New State Record! In the resort store there were pics of 2 different fish and both were very thin with hugh heads. We (mtsiview) managed 1 out of there (44incher) last weekend and it was nice and FAT (18.5")! If I had the time and $$ I'd head there this weekend too, heck I'd fish 'till the freeze over!
