crappie near vancouver?
I am looking to take out the kids (but mostly for me:)) and was wondering about Crappie near here? I have heard up on Silver Lake, near Castle Rock.....anywhere else? I have a boat...Thanks for any and all replies.

There are several places you may want to try for crappie. You can try Lacamas Lake and/or Round Lake (the two are connected) which are located just north of Camas. Silver lake, the lake you mentioned earlier is often a hotspot in April. You may also want to try fishing some of the sloughs that come off of the Columbia such as the one out in Woodland. Another spot you may want to try is Vancouver Lake fishing near the sailing club on the SE shore but beware, the lake is very shallow in many areas. If you choose to go there I suggest putting your boat in at the Felida boat launch. The problem you may run accross is locating the crappie becuase the water is still cooler that normal for this time of year and I havent seen very many reports of crappie being cautght in SW WA yet this year. I've gone out for them twice so far and have been skunked both times. I suggest holding off your trip until mid April with the hope that there will be a warming trend between now and then.

Thanks a ton.....I will try those spots.....we used to use minnows back in GA, and little Mister Twister style grubs....I read some people troll for them out here....(we also used to create our own cover by sinking old Christmas trees in January:)) what are your thoughts on bait vs artificial? and does anyone sell minnows? maybe I better check the regs out here! And again, thanks!
