i was browsing wal-mart today and saw a cool looking bamboo pole that had one eye at the end and also had a package on the top containing a bobber, hook and some line. the pole seems like it is okay quality but who knows it was $3!!!! i bought it thinking "what the hell why not" it is made by a company called "B n' M's"

right next to it i saw a 13' telescoping panfish rod that was new in design it is called a durango and was made by shakespeare. i had money burning a hole in my pocket so i bought that to besides it was only $6!! it feels like it is fiberglass but i am not sure

anybody every used a panfish rod like this or even used the ones i am talking about

I have one of the first rods that you mentioned but have never used it. They are real popular down south. B n M rods make pretty much all crappie rods, they sell for a cheap price but I have never used one.


The longer rods also seem to be very popular down south. While boat angling for crappie you can hit an area with out spooking the fish because you can be as far a 16' away. (or 13' in your case)

I mostly dock fish for crappie and I prefer a 5' 5" micro light rod. Its a lot easier to work tight spots like between boats and docks. They also like to use 10lb test for crappie down south it seems but I cant see going heavier than 4.

I have used rods for crappie that are 10' and longer, but they were just old fly rods. There are a blast because there is a ton of action and even funner to troll with, but like I said thats not the type of crappie fishing I do a lot.

Both rods will do the trick. And even if they dont...... I would have made the same purchase for under $10

i to mostly use a small 5'5" microspin rod for crappie, it works good for casting my jig and bobber set-ups very nice.

i was just spending money, i only took a $10 loss so even if it does not work i am still happy.


i liked the idea of being able to drop a bait up to 13' away without make a huge splash and scaring the fish.

Yeah the thing I dont understand though is how they get the crappie back to them. Because if your 13' feet away that means you have to lift that crappie 13' out of the water to get a hold of the fish, and we all know the mouths on those things are paper thin.

Actually, you bought POLES, not Rods. Poles are designed to poke the lure into brush, trees, or cover and were/are the big thing in the South East of the country. They are very effective, but they are somewhat less effective if you fish a lot of clear water. They really are designed for Crappie, but of course they will work on anything you can get close enough to.

Personally, I'd not own one in the Pacific Northwest.

once you get a bite set hook and run the opposite way until the fish is at bank haha.


you can make the line shorter or longer depending on how comfortable you are but your line should never be longer than the pole.

I've got one of the shakespere telesoping ultralight spinning rods. It fits under the seat of my truck, and is nice for those spur of the moment fishing. Nothing fancy, but it beats the heck out of a "pocket fisherman"...

That pocket fisherman is a joke...ya'll remember that airing on QVC home shopping network...that thing was a piece of junk from the get go...if anyone owns one, fess up.

You can never have enough fishing stuff in you collection. No pocket fisherman for me, but I have not 1 but 2 banjo minnow sets. 1 form my grandmother and the othe from my cousin. He swares by it.....but never actuall used it and since I have known him I have only witnessed him catch 10 or so fish

I'll fess up. If I look long enough I could find a pocket fisherman around here somewhere.:colors: It was a joke gift from a fishing buddy after I had a real bad day fishing. But hey, I use Ugly Stix too.......
