If your foul hooking while twitching odds are your not fishing the right water. I went 14/19 on twitching jigs last monday and 8/9 on bulls and foul hooked 0 fish. I very rarely foul hook any fish.

Not all of those actions necessarily denote snagging......

Lol I think you're right on that as I don't have the right technique down for twitching as the reason I don't use it often. Pinks being an exception. You on the other hand have got it down sir and most of us admire that but just not my go to technique as I have trouble with it

I only say drift fishing is inferior because A.) ive never in my life been outfished by a drift fisherman B) i outfish drift fisherman 10-1. Can it be done right? Sure it can. Can it be as effective as the methods i use? Nope. Lol

The only people that ever do better than me are float fisherman using roe, beads or jigs w/ sandshrimp during low and clear conditions, and even then i usually am on parr or close to it even in that scenario (including steelhead).

One day last year (early season) i litterally outfished all of thomas eddy, thats right i outfished the entire crowd of people drifting dick nights by myself on coho. I sh*t you not. Currently this year im averaging 11.6 coho per outing landed with many more hook ups than that.... I have never in my life seen a LEGITAMATE drift fisher pull those kinds of numbers, and honestly ive done better than what im currently doing before. I pulled a 30+ fish day on coho a few years back while trying for cutthroat on 6lb test! Broke off twice as many. 100% legitamately caught.

Im not looking down on drift fishers, im just saying that method is obsolete and other methods are far more productive in my opinion.

Others can disagree, this is simply my opinion based on my observations. I rest my case. [flapper]

Ok now not to throw you under the bus I can recall you saying that you haven't hooked many steelhead let alone last year that you were fishing the sky. Now in the other I have outfished others on steelhead when others are using the same technique. That being said I don't fish terminal areas for steelhead and like to stay far away from crowds when going after steely usually only running into a few dedicated steelheaders. We all enjoy your post but arrogance is not the way to go about it. Ok we get it your the best at fishing. Right. Whose to say others didn't have great days like you as you were mostly bank fishing. I've had phnenominal days out of my buddies jet boat pulling plugs to the point we were being picky and only keeping big bright hens. Maybe not last year but that's beyond the point. Pink egos can go a long ways but until you hook and land 5+ steelies on a single day with unfavorable conditions you cannot say you're the best. I've had those days and believe me my arms were sore. Salmon are to predictable in my opinion and 15+ days can be a norm for some. Lets try and be more humble next time. Oh and let's not forget the salt. I've fished for 30 minutes last year and limited with 2 of us. Couldn't even keep the lines in the water before we had to head home and back before my wife even got up. Didn't keep fishing that day as satistifaction was there.
Also isn't this forum about the snoho, sky, Wallace opening up not about our egos or fishing techniques

Ok riverhunter i see i struck a nerve here. I am sorry for the ego. Sure ill try on some humility when it comes to steelies for sure. But i did also say to you that i hardly targeted them at all (3 times before this season). I did well this year though being my first season of actually specifically going after them with some multifish days too and 3 hooked on the fly rod. I know others are better at steel, the guys i see doing best for those are float fisherman though like my friend ilvlakecassidy , Not drifters. When i was out this season, on average i was on parr with other fishermen in the area catchwise including float fishermen.

And i never said I was best at fishing. Lets not get it twisted here. i said drift fishing is inferior compared to the techniques i use. Which i still stand by. I gave examples of it effectiveness, to illustrate my point. Nit trying to make anyone feel bad, im just saying it how it is. If i rubbed you the wrong way, i appologise, and ill try to tone it down.

Correct sir I religiously fish jigs under float for steelies and my go to technique for them but that's just steelies we all have different views and my apologies if I sounded like was attacking you but with so many techniques out there some of us have perfected some better then others. You sir are a great fisherman and not taking that away from you and twitching i can see is definitely your favorite arsenal. Not so much for others one day I hope to get it as dialed in as you have.

This should be " the smack talk thread" [flapper]
I have never come close drift fishing to catching the number I do with eggs and float.
You should come down and have a clinic to teach how to fish jigs...

Again, reminiscing about the "good old days"...

When I first got started steelhead fishing I'd go down to Reiters and everyone drift fished. This was in 89'. A few years later I started seeing an occasional float angler and the talk would be "that person should fish this area the way the rest of us are, he's messing up the drift for everyone".

I took a break from steelhead fishing for a few years and when I came back, everyone was float fishing and the drift fishing guys were in the minority. I'd say that is a good indicator of which method is more effective. Certainly, float fishing allows an angler to cover water a lot better and without losing near as much gear. That in itself makes it a more effective use of fishing time.

Still fun to have that rod get head shaked though...

It's getting bad when you see people fishing the wallace with jigs like the samish, let it sit in the whole and rip it. [thumbdn]

Yeah I'm not kidding, then when then hook them foul hooked, they're all excited like they got them in the mouth. Either way on the bank it goes.

Around 4 people at the spot I fished but then a group of 4 snaggers just walk into our holes and starts hook setting every few seconds while we're float fishing then they leave. But another spot had probably 15-20.

OH my?
Overloaded? Looks like everybody from WA state is coming here.
RH: nothing has been changed on that river from the last couple years ago! Literally nothing! It is getting worse!
Seen officers over there couple times at hatchery or close ,doesn't change much.
Where they have been during king salmon run when that part of river was closed for any fishing? Doing maintainance at railroad? Do not think so. Lasted for a long period of time. Diff cars.
Where are they when the guys fishing straight by hatchery intake, with bobber and eggs, literally vertical line and bobber in front of fish which is going into the hatchery? Last Thursday.
Go under the bridge! It is just snugfest. Before rain it wasn't much current. That was sick. That is called fishing?
They need a doctor/warden! They can't do other way, it is addiction, no matter what , no matter how, but fish!
After the rain no better. Anyway, anyhow to get fish! That is sick! Cast , rip , rip, rip! Didn't put my line in water, just turned around and went back to my car.
About river disclosure. Well. You are the premium one who took part of it by complaining how come your home river is closed and how soon this will be open. Check your report.
Thanks for that too.
Keep going like that and make sure Wallace is under control now. Oh yeah!
Nothing personal, but doesn't make any sense to me.

PS: unfortunately this river is infested with snaggers for good! Close to Sammish.
Couple years ago I was fishing over there with my friend: float and eggs. Slowly but surely. Just enjoying! We do need much fish.
Guy is coming. Fine with us. Bite is dying.
That is where crap begins.
He is trying to pull us out of our spot with his drift fishing .Ok.
Unintentionally I 've snagged his line with my bobber. Guess what: double hook with barb. Well. On the river when salmon run requed single hook. After asking a couple questions and seen his eyes, we have to remove our butts out of that spot.
He was definitely pro in snagging fish.
They are not going to bite your eggs. You are waisting your time in here. That is what I've hear from him.
After that he was doing rip rap every other cast, having fish on every other cast, not mouth of coarse!
Problems are the guy wasn't local for sure,he didn't take fish, C&R, and his eyes, oh, his eyes. He was sick with snagging those fish. That is the reason we left that spot without any arguments.
That was pretty descent guy with very good outfit for the river.
I do not have a gun, hate to have a gun, hate any gun! But in this case I wish I had a gun ..... On my belt of coarse.

Point is too many crazy people are on the rivers, where they are not suppose to be.
It is getting worse and worse and worse!
