those sure are some pretty fish... love the colors....
Re: Mega Myron MONSTERS
Can the Lake bottom be seen in the holes your fishing? What pound test for those caliber of fish? And, why does such a small offering entice these large fish? The colors on these fish are stunning.
What is the ice depth?

Re: Mega Myron MONSTERS
Usually Myron is fairly clear down to 12ft this time of year but the water level is down which must effect the clarity which is about 6ft. These trout are brooders and have been fed pellets which are much smaller. the jigs I used were 1 1/2"s. most trout in these small lake/ponds mainly get tiny aquatic bugs to eat so a nice brightly colored jig gets their attention. Brooders tend to follow the shore line and will swim around the entire pond/lake unless there is something in their path in which they will slow down to swim through the obstruction or do a roudabout and head back the other way. these are the areas I fish for these big trout. 6lb line is perfect for these fish. Had fish #5 wrap around a tree limb and had to drill a hole over the fish and the branch and use the auger handle to free it from the branch. so 6lb line can take a rough work out.

With these monsters fighting from below ice. How is the fishing line protected from rubbing against the ice hole? When a fish dives under the boat, the rod is stabbed straight down in the water to protect the line from rubbing. Same for ice fishing?

Re: Mega Myron MONSTERS
I've never had a problem with ice cutting the line I have had break offs due to lite line (2-4 lb) which could break from the ice it self but the torque ratio between fish and rod with the ice involved does put more strain on the line were break offs happen at the lure or knot area's. 6 lb line is more than ample to real in most fish that wash'n'tonions fish for through the ice. larger line if you are fishing for toothy fish like walleye/pike. Don't use old line and check you line often for nicks/abrasions and get rid of that section.MotoBoat wrote:With these monsters fighting from below ice. Good to know there should be no worry about the ice damaging line, during the playing of the fish to the hole. I must admit, that is as surprising as finding out a vehicle tire can run over barbed wire with little to no chance of poking a hole.
