WD 40 I'm one of those that thought it was fish oil
There is a popular urban legend that the key ingredient in WD-40 is fish oil.[3] However, the WD-40 web site states that it is a petroleum based product. [4]

Which is why using it as an scent/attactor on fishing lures is technically illegal. It's a great product though and has many uses.

When Im Plunking I use WD-40 on my Spin N Glos. Keeps them spinning without getting hung up.Also on my reels.I never used it as a scent. Thatll work in Elliot or Commencement Bays. Thats how those waters naturally smell.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

I've used it as a attractant while fishing for sturgeon on the Willamette. That was back in the 80's. We were spraying it on cut bait. We caught 8 that day. Nothing big though.

I've just used it for downrigger hardware, flashers, hoochies, herring,>>>>>>>>>>>>> salmon. I use worm, pwr bait, shrimp, anise, krill for trout and breem. WD stays on my bigger boat not the cartopper.

Taz is correct. It takes time to remember things for me. I remember fishing Springers using WD-40.
