Secret Bass Lakes For You Guys

Ok, since no else will disclose locations, I will. I will mention two lakes/ponds in particular that are way underfished for bass and even a few nice crappie and perch also. These two lakes are deffinately no complete secret, but I am willing to bet at least 90% of you do not know of them or their potential of producing big largemouths. The two lakes that I speek of are Shadow Lake (not the one in Renton) and Lake Beecher. These are two lakes that are near Clearview along the Snohomish River. Shadow Lake is in the Bob Hierman Wildlife Refuge at Thomas's Eddy. I know a ton of humpy fisherman bound for Thomas's Eddy on the Snohomish River walk right by this little gem with no idea it has some big largemouths in it. You can see the pond down below you from the parking lot.

The other lake is Beecher and it is just a little south of Shadow on the same road, but is a bit harder to see because there are a lot of trees in the way. Beecher is also a bit harder to access because it is down a crappy little trail to get to the waters edge. The best way to fish these lakes is from a small boat/inflatable because shore access is not that great, however you can fish the shore in a few places. So Bigbass Dez, your pontoon would be perfect. I have fished both lakes many times in the past and they have produced very well for me, so if anyone wants directions just respond and I will post them for everyone. And I am telling you guys about these lakes because they are not tecnically a secret but hardly anyone fishes them on any given day and they can provide fantastic fishing at times.

I do not live up north, I live in Vancouver, so I can not take advantage of these two gems, but if you go to Google maps and search for Bob Heirman Wildlife Park, Washington it will take you right to it! The first one, Shadow Lake, looks like a lot of pads and weeds to flip in to...I am so jealous!

Believe me, if you hit either of these lakes at the right time it is probably some of the best bass fishing you will have in this area. The key is timing because both are shallow and are sensitive to temperature change.

I have not gotten around to fishing either lake for about two and a half years, but I am sure the fishing has not changed. My biggest bucket mouth between the two lakes was out of Shadow, and it was 6.8 lbs. I have landed many more out of both in the 4-6 lb. class, and I don't even know how many 1-3 lb'ers.

So like I said, I am not sure of the fishing in these lakes now, but it probably has not changed. A big reason that I love fishing these lakes is that they are more like ponds and I barely ever have seen anyone else fish them. Another cool thing about both the lakes is that they both have small canals that branch off of them that have provided me with some of the most spectacular largemouth fishing that I have ever had. One of my favorite things to do was to fish the canal in Shadow in early and late summer with top waters. The canal is probably about 10-20 ft. wide in places and takes a person that is willing to explore and go over some logs to get at the fish.

If you want a secret smallmouth hole I know where you should go, Clark lake in king county. It is a lovely park there and you can get a float tube or a rubber raft into the lake. Or in my case an 8ft car topper. there is a fishing peir, and if you go through the weeds there is even a small hole on an organic island where I have gotten all of my big fish from. Someone I met there said that he fished from the dock all last year and got lts of nice bass off a floatin minnow lure. I have had luck with a green spinnerbait. only caght one largmouth out of there. You have to fish it early in the mourning or in the evening as the park is a popular place to walk dogs and when they go swimming it they spook all of the fish. btw the lake has lots of sunfish and bluegill.

Smallmouth in clark lake, are you sure?? I've fished that lake/pond for years. Its nothing spectacular, my biggest is around 3 lbs.

yup on the other end of the lake, bober and worm has got some nice ones usualy under 3lbs but I have heard of up to 5lbers in there. Got a nice cutthroat once too.

No problem, both lakes can be excellent at times. Well worth a shot at least.

Thnaks bud however , shadow lake was the first lake i fished this year during the spring .. and your right it's a good lil lake , i posted a report about this lake but i clicked on the wrong one i posted it on the renton shadow lake (lol) I Havent gone back there since spring due to the pads, and pads and more pad taking up most of the lake .. i plan on fishing it again next spring .. my biggest that day was a 4lb LMB and smallest was a 2 / my bud claims that state record size crappie are in there as well ....BBD

I have fished Beecher a couple of times from a canoe. I caught nothing to brag about but while fishing with Son Don, he caught a nice fish pushing 5 lbs.

no i didnt , i launch at the wrong spot .. I park at the park area , walked down that long A$$ hill and got in there .. i did see the canal .. im looking forward to going back there next season .. ill also keep beecher in mind as well , thanks man !! whats your personal best on shadow .. that place looks like a 8 pounder could be lerking around there somewhere .. the water had a bad stinch to it .. lol ..

Yeah that hill down to the water does kind of suck, but is worth the solitude while fishing. Personal best out of Shadow was 6.8 lbs. I caught it at the mouth of the canal on a 4" smoke colored Kalin grub on a 3/16 oz. jig head. The canal could have more downed trees to contend with now, but I don't know for sure because it has been a couple of years since I was there. This canal goes for a ways and has given up some decent largemouths to us. It is fun fishing the canal because it is a lot smaller water and is different from the same old big water fishing, a nice change of pace every once and awhile. Oh yeah, by the way I have seen bigger fish than my 6.8 cruising around in there, getting those ones to bite is the hard part though.

Ive got one...

Surprise lake in the Surprise lake village apartments. In Milton behind the Dollar Store, Key bank and some other small stores.

Here's the catch...

You have to park at the apartments and drag or carry your water craft in. Park in a un-coverd spot and shot for the weekdays. The water gets really shallow towards the south end where you have to launch so I only go there in early season (cause I have a jon boat). I try as hard as I can to not drop and trash and make a bunch of noise. The water is very very clear and there are a lot of bass. The area around the apartment dock is great but those bass are very spooky because so many people walk around there and can see them spawning in that clear water.

I also love the spawn. As you might remember most of my time for bass is spent at my local body of water, Cottage lake. We could probably set something up closer to that time though.
