RE:Combat Fishing Etiquette Revisited!!
If you have a fish on, especially in combat situations, please yell "FISH ON! COMING DOWN/UP STREAM!" with a loud voice so everyone can hear you. There have been many instances where someone has had a fish on and literally whispered "fish on" and no one knew it. And when that guy came running down down with his fish, lines would get tangled.
Yesterday on the Skokomish standing on the opposite bank of river I was able to see when someone had a fish on. And many times guys were whispering "fish on" and so I had to reiterate with my loud Marine Corps trained voice "FISH ON! MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!" And so people did. Please yell it like you have a pair!
And in the hole I was fishing, there was definitely no etiquette.

This topic is to help and assist those who are sticking their feet in the water to see what the water feels like.reigndawgs wrote:That's my solution too.Shad_Eating_Grin wrote:stay away from the combat areas
I am trying to give some tips and ask that others chime in so others can learn from mistakes that we did.
The more that understand the etiquette, hopefully this will make the flow of combat fishing much easier.

I like what Curado said . I fish the Snoqualmie alot in the winter and sled drivers are some of the rudest. We'll be plunking as they fly through the hole.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Another tip, when you see a person leave to fight a fish, I say that spot that is vacated should still remain his/hers.

Yup. Another big issue. Communication is key, but if you see someone fishing a hole and they get one on and start taking it down/upriver, don't just jump into their hole. If it's me with the fish I can guarantee I'll be right back cuz all my gear's gonna be in the area cuz I'm already set up there. Just another common courtesy.jens wrote:Another tip, when you see a person leave to fight a fish, I say that spot that is vacated should still remain his/hers.
When times get tough, just keep on fishin'!!!
RE:Combat Fishing Etiquette Revisited!!
I will blow through any hole i think it the most safest and deepest hole for my sled:salut: . Speed is my friend and yours too. MY tub rides in 6 inches so get over it:-({|= . And as for you bank fisherman WHO wade all the way to the middle of the river standing in the only channel there is get a life vest as i do not slow down. Lets be real here if i was above a hole fishing off my tub, to move on i would have to drift down to the hole "deep water" so i can shoot out of the water to get on plane. If you don have a boat i dont expect you to understand.
While i am at it for some retarded reason bank anglers think there is fish under my boat ive had people hit my boat with the buzz bombs and spinners not to mention snag on my anchor line.

RE:Combat Fishing Etiquette Revisited!!
Might of been me. My guess is they are not fishing rivers with buzz bombs, it is also my guess that they are not trying to fish under your boat. It is more likely they were trying to hit your boat because of your "I will blow through any hole I want" attitude. There are so many more places that guys with boats can fish, why ruin the very few areas bankies have access to? I have been with guys that run sleds and they have always slowed down and drifted through holes where there is a concentration of bankies.sickbayer wrote: I will blow through any hole i think it the most safest and deepest hole for my sled:salut: . Don't forget the guy runnin the net. i can't count how often i lose my spot to net somebody's fish, an not jus a buddy's fish either. i've seen lots a guys jus ignore a fella who's havin sum trouble with his fish and as soon as i reel up an grab a net there goes my spot and i gotta either argue to get it back or move somewhere else.
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga, except i still get to kill something.

RE:Combat Fishing Etiquette Revisited!!
I usually on the river before any boats are. If Im fishing near the boat launch and they start showing up I move to a different spot out of courtesy. Now if Im fishing a spot and they start drifting through where Im fishing Ill cast into there lines intentionally. I was here fishing you can see that drift it outside of where Im at. This being said if you anchor in front of me be prepared to have 2 oz pelt your boat. Im not usually an ass but show me one and I can copy just fine. I really dont care if you blow past me when Im in my hole. Just dont fish my hole when youre in the boat and Im there first.
More fish please!

RE:Combat Fishing Etiquette Revisited!!
The boat thing is like this, bank anglers will never win that one. boats will always blow through the holes no matter how far someone is in the river. they think they have the right away. I have been on plenty of sleds and you can slow down and get through a section over river with people fishing in it just fine. We have done it many of times do you get up of down river fast that way..NO but it keeps everyone safe on the river. it is arrogant people that think that speed is there best friend...hope you find that sand bar or rock that is only 2 inches under the surface.
they are throw stuff at your boat not because they think fish are there is is because you probably felt to blow through that hole of came in the hole and anchored your boat in a hole and blocked there area they were already fishing.
The point is we all have to share the river so everyone should look out for everyone this include sleds, drift boats and bank anglers. Remove your head and then take the blinders off and open your eyes, that goes for the idiots throwing gear at peoples boats and trying to cross people lines. Doing any of that will not help anyone at all.

RE:Combat Fishing Etiquette Revisited!!
yep a big problem on the skok, if someone is retying gear I will take there spot and tell them let me know when you come back in and I will move out of your spot. I do this so I can fish the hole and not increase the the amount of lines going into the that hole. I hate it when a hole is already full and when I say I am talking there is no way anyone of the last 2 or 3 people at the top and bottom of a hole is going to catch of fish. then 2 more people move into the bottom and cast way up stream and they can't even keep there line tight because it has to travel 30 yrds feet down stream before it will even be out in front of them. So I would rather take a hole while someone is on the bank retying up gear and just give it right back to him once he is ready to move back in. I always yell coming back out if I have to move out of my hole and this is in order to let who ever moved in to get the f out.Shane wrote:Had problems with people taking my spot at the skok yesterday. Like Flippin said. I have a dedicated pole with a 4 oz pyramid only to ward off rude boats.I dont like tossing it but its good just for intimidating some rude boater.

RE:Combat Fishing Etiquette Revisited!!
After fishing the Skok saturday, I expected much worse than what I seen. Majority of the time everyone was casting in order and if not, we made sure to let that person know to wait.
And seriously, if you are hung up, PLEASE PLEASE, give a couple of tugs. If it aint comin free, just break off!! This guy waded out into the drift, took about 5 minutes to try and unsnag, the snag wins most of the time.
