CABELA'S IS AAAAWESOME!!!!!
Just got back from Cabela's (Contractor Appreciation Night). The whole family went (wife, 3 kids), they all had a blast. My kids kept saying "is that real??"...."is THAT real Dad??" (talking about the mountain full of animals). I'm not going to spoil your "adventure" with details, just be prepared to be WOW'D.
The place is VERY nicely layed out, easy to get around, cool cafe upstairs with a great menu, friendly staff and great prices.
Tonight was 40% off accross the board on most items (excluding firearms and ammo). I got a new set of Cabela's chest high insulated breathable waders for $40 :thumright
A word of advise...go early, plan on HUUUUUGE crowds and about 3 hours to see the whole store.
Hope you all enjoy it as much as we did.
Welcome to Washington Cabela's!!!!!!!

RE:CABELA'S IS AAAAWESOME!!!!!
I was asked last week by one of our Superintendents if I wanted to go with him tomorrow...wife was diagnosed with pneumonia this last weekend so I won't be going with him......unless I give her some time for rest by herself and take the kids...hmmm.
Maybe I'll get there sometime next week. Can't wait to see it!! :bounce:

Good call Chad...stay with the wife. Cabela's will be there next week and the week after. They've extended their "Holiday hours" to open at 8 a.m. and close around 9/10 p.m. I'm gonna let the "newness" wear off a bit before I go back.
Have fun, BE SURE and take the kids, they'll dig it.

Thank you! Once her medications start kicking in, she should do alright.bassackwards wrote:I hope your wife's feeling better soon.
Oh, yeah...most definitely! I think they will really enjoy it. Last time I was in a Cabela's was in '95 in Nebraska...and there was lots to see and do then...can't imagine what they are like now. Well, yeah I can...but that just gets me all giddy like a 13 year old school girl all hopped up on mountain dew and licorice!!bassackwards wrote:...BE SURE and take the kids, they'll dig it.
It was rather comical...my wife just about had to slap me back into reality when I was describing what the store was going to be like.

They had friendly "guards" at the door taking invatations as you walked in. I had about 5 different employees thank me for the "work" I did on the store.dilbert wrote:Bassackwards,

I'm not sure what the Grand Opening discount is gonna be. I know the 40% was for the Contractor's
I hope you guys get something similar....did I mention my $40 waders????? LOL
Chad: My wife had to slap me too....you had me cracking up with that one, I'm glad I'm not alone. I actually ran into a friend as soon as I got in the door last night. I was like a kid at Disneyland for the first time....I was just staring and smiling....I didn't even stop to say hi to him. I think he said something to me, not quite sure. I'm sure he understood it wasn't personal...it's CABELA BLISS!!!!

Don't spend all your money at Cabela's guys.
I'm starting to pick up rumors that Bass Pro Shops may be coming the Western Washington.
Right now the location being discussed is at Exit 63 (winlock-toledo.. the third exit after you cross the Cowlitz as you drive north on I-5... exit 63 is about 15 miles south of Chehalis).
This is a very preliminary report. Actual start of construction would be at least a couple of years away if at all. But, given how much a sport fishing and sport hunting junkie can spend in a place like that it may not be too early to start saving now.
Personally, I've bought a lot of stuff from cabelas over the years but not nearly as much as I've purchased from Bass Pro Shops.

RE:CABELA'S IS AAAAWESOME!!!!!
I went to Cabelas on the 16th. (opening day) My and a couple of buddies. Stood in line for 2 hours before they opened. We did get a $10.00 gift card. That place is amazing, they just about had everything, but their prices are a little high. After we got done shopping at cabelas, we went to sportsman warehouse to compare prices and sportsman warehouse beat cabelas on almost everything. Don't get me wrong Cabelas has triple what sportman warehouse has.

I went to Cabelas on Saturday the 17th. It is an awesome place. I was like a kid in candy store. Didn't spend a lot of money. To busy looking a round.
A bad day of fishing, is better then a good day at work !!!!!!!
RE:CABELA'S IS AAAAWESOME!!!!!
This is just too funny! Reading all the "reports" on Cabela's is almost as interesting as reading the fishin reports. I talked up a visit to the big C for two weeks prior to it's opening (16th) and living in Buckley, we had to get up around 5am to beat the traffic. My wife thought I had finally went over the edge. We took our daughter & son-in-law and granddaughters, too. What a happy bunch at 6am in the car! Anyway, we got there at 7:30 and saw the 900+ people standing in line and thought "OH NO!" It was raining to boot. So we sat in the car and listened to KMPS as they did a live thing from inside. It was really cool. They opened a little before 8am and we were in the store by 8:10! By the way, we got our pic in the Olympian...I'm the old gray haired guy with the cute little girl and we're pointing at all the mounted animals. My granddaughter is at that WOW age where everything is new and exciting. I got a little taste of that walking into Cabela's and seeing all the big boy toys, too. It really is a 'destination' store where there is a lot to do and see. Kinda like going to the fair. It's a must see if not just for the mounts and shooting gallery.

RE:CABELA'S IS AAAAWESOME!!!!!
Finally got to hit up the infamous Cabela's today. Got there around 10:30 found a place to park about as far from the store as you can possibly get. Made my inside and the jubilation lasted until I started looking for some stuff I needed. The mountain was cool...the fish tank was alright. Didn't get to try out the restaurant as it was packed. I only lasted for about an hour until I got bored. Way too many people. Every time I wanted to check something out, was running into each other. Half the stuff I was looking for, they didn't have...but then again, neither did Sportsman's Warehouse, Joe's or Sportco.
I don't like big crowds and I think that added to the disappointment. Or it could have been the firetruck and ambulance out front 'cause some lady took a digger and bonked her noggin, who knows. Maybe when there aren't so many people, I'll go back...say after the first of January. Then I can take my time and really look at stuff. Usually I have a game plan...know what I am looking for get in, find it, get out. Next time, I'll toss out the game plan and just wander around a bit.
Wasn't a total waste of time...the guy I met and sold my rod to turned out to be a fairly nice guy, and invited me to come out to his place for some fishing on Pattison Lake and a barbecue type of affair this spring, so that was cool. Plus, I walked out spending less that fifteen bucks! Still trying to figure how I managed to do that. The wifey about flipped a wig when I called her on the radio and said how proud I was for spending less than five hundred bucks...she wasn't very nice about it.

I feel the same way as you Leahcim_dahc
I went on opening day. I got to the store about 8:30 and parked in front with no line. The store was semi crowded but manageable. The thing I was disappointed with the most was the lack of stock they had. They said they weren't running 100% and that they had sold a bunch of inventory the previous 4 days. Over all I could have bought everything I did buy that day at just about any local store around federal way/tacoma. I do want to go back in a couple of months but putting myself through any hassle to do so before than would just not be worth it.
I didn't have high expectation I just wish they had more stock otherwise online is still the way to go.

Yeah...they did seem to have very little. They told me the same thing they told you...running low, and was expecting more soon. I suspect they would have a difficult time keeping anything in stock with the amount of people that were there buying stuff.danielt wrote:The thing I was disappointed with the most was the lack of stock they had.
The only thing I was able to find there that I haven't found anywhere else was some Swedish Pimple's I want to try out for some panfish on Lake Washington. Other than that, I can find it at all the usual places or on the internet.
I will give a thank you to the little old guy that tried to find the adapter for my fish finder mount. He was fairly nice and apologetic that he couldn't find it. The other employee's seemed to be fairly positive and helpful for the most part, with the circus going on. We'll see how long that lasts.

RE:CABELA'S IS AAAAWESOME!!!!!
I agree alot with DT whom i did see there, i still have my 500 hundred dollar gift cards to spend just waiting for the right well i dont know exactly what the right is yet but hopefully sooon i will find out things to get, maybe i shouldnt be so concerned about how its spent just spend it already,oh excuse me thats the wife in my ear, i believe that it being the end of the year and this is when most companies back off on orders "inventory count" tax man coming, they dont want as much stock as the middle of the year they have, since i live 10min away oh i will be back and alot more after that, nothing like the bass pro i was at in vegas though now they had some stock man did they, even their aquarium had 10 and 15lb bass in it and to sit and stare at them dreaming, maybe someday they'll let me fish it!!!! DT my tires on the trailer are gonna go flat from sitting there haha
RE:CABELA'S IS AAAAWESOME!!!!!
^^Im ready when you are we will just need to have the rain gear out. Bring a spinning rod with 6lb line and Ill supply the hooks, weights and baits.
RE:CABELA'S IS AAAAWESOME!!!!!
Just got back. Boy that place is out there a ways from my location. Cool place to check out. Don't think I'll be back. Left home at 2:30 was at the store at 3:45-4 ish. Browsed for an hour, left at 5, didn't get home till 6:40pm. The traffic was just dead slow in places due to this:
Snow! Lots of it, coming down hard.
The store was cool. No doubt. Not crowded, lots of inventory, and some more gear directed towards NW anglers (saltwater salmon stuff, not the Florida type stuff they used to just stock like crazy)
Saw lots of Loomis and Lami products there (lots of guys were pissed that they had no stock of these rods) and they had some more boats directed towards NW fishing (Hewescrafts and Stripers)
All in all, it was worth going. Lots of bass fishing stuff, lots of rods/reels, guns, etc. Lots of everything actually. Fish tank was cool, stuffed animals were cool, and it was a decent trip. Wouldn't go back there. Prices were a lot higher then I'd expect, and it's just a LONG drive. Gas @$3.50 aint fun.
Thought about posting pictures of the store, but hey, you gotta see it for yourself....can't ruin the surprise..
