I'm about ready to build another fly rod and it got me to thinking; why couldn't we have a "Rod Building" forum here at WL.com? Actually I went looking for a rod building forum but couldn't find one. I don't know all the ins and outs of creating a new forum, and was wondering if it's even possible or if there is enough interest. What say all?

Outstanding Idea!!! I haven't built one in years. A get together for some hands on experience for the younger members would be an awesome way to pass on knowledge as well. I learned from a retired neighbor when I was a kid just because I saw him working on one and walked up. I know he enjoyed passing it on and we made several rods and countless spinners spinners. It turns out he held the world record for Columbia Sturgeon for a while. BIG fishy.

Here is an attempt to show you a couple of pics of the rod. It was built on a Batson Enterprises RX7, 7 1/2', 5 wieght, 4 piece blank. The reel seat is a Struble D2, downlocking, sliding band with Teak Wood insert. The grip, winding check, guides and tip top come from Hook & Hackle. Unless you are a dealer, you can't buy from Batson, so the blank came from Hook & Hackle also. This rod sports a 10 mm, moss colored, agate stripping guide from Golden Witch. All these folks are great to deal with. The will bend over backwards to get you what you want to build your new rod.
Here's is th first pic. I'll have to post then edit to post the second pic.

They ARE fun to build. I think my next one is going to be a 9' 4 piece 8 weight, with a detachable fighting butt. I've never been steelhead fishing with a fly rod and I think it's about time. The rod I just built makes this old man's casts look really good. I fished it on the North Fork of the Coeur d' Alene River a week and a half ago. Unfortunately the fishing was a lot better than the catching. I hooked into one (maybe 10 incher) and lost it at about 10 feet. Another LDR. Oh Well.
