Lake Index - Facilities ?

after clicking on a desired lake, it would be good to see what type of facilities are available at that lake.

:king:

it would be nice to see a icon representing certain types of facilities. it would make it more visually appealing, as if you were looking on a map, or reading road signs.

just like a map there should be a legend that defines what icon represents.

FACILITIES:
- camping
- picnic area
- food / restaurants within a 5 mile radius
- handicap accessible
- restrooms

a list of major facilities should be made, and an icon bar should be implimented. when you go to a particular lake to see what facilities are available, all facilities should be listed in the icon bar, and ones which are not available should be greyed out.

That would be cool. I would like to know if a lake has motor restrictions.

I agree it would be a great idea but sometimes finding that info out can be quite a problem because the counties/cities are sometimes slow to update the list of facilities at lakes/parks.

All readers of this site can send in recent information on lakes, such as type of launch ramp, toilets, parking, resorts, parks, camping, motor restrictions and etc. etc. I furnished many overviews to many lakes when the site first started and have added several sense then. If we all do that, and talk Mike into updating changes into the overviews, a whole lot of good, new information could be available for many, many lakes. Also, everyone can send a featured lake report. I have sent in several and have posted guidelines for the reports in this sites "Tackle Box Tales". Let's all share information on lakes that we fish regularly. Things at lakes do change such as new ramps, new toilets and etc. Tight lines.

This is so weird. Aaron recently asked me to recruit a couple guys to help implement this very type of thing. So here's my request for volunteers! Bass Tracker is so right - this is a BIG state with thousands of lakes. I could spend my whole life visiting lakes and I still wouldn't get to them all. WL.com has always been a group effort. What's neat is that as we grow the group gets bigger and we should be able to become even more comprehensive.

I would like to input some facility change information on a few lakes that have out-dated information. How would you like me to submit those? Write a lake report or via e-mail?

That alone is what puts this site above all others, participation.
I also have added info on lakes that I know quite well. Also, I would like to see more photos submitted on lakes.
I take my camera with me on every fishing trip. It is very easy to snap about 6 pictures of a lake and email them to Mike.

T-dot-
Great idea with the Icons. Add special regs to the icons if you can, like NO-BAIT, fly fishing only, etc.

not to be a wet rag, but putting in information pertaining to regs is dangerous in that WDFW changes regs all the time and we don't want to be in a situation of constantly trying to keep up with them. There are those that will follow the "regs as recorded on WL.com" rather than review the official WDFW regs. I'd perfer to see a text entry something like "as of 2007, fish lake was fly-fishing only", rather than an icon which implies a static reg.

Learned this lesson a few years back as many of the old lake overviews were WDFW written and mentioned stuff like stocking, etc that soon became out of date.

Good point Mike, didn't think of that. It probably wouldn't matter because there are so many "anglers" that don't pay any attention to the regs anyway.

Going back to Mike's point about the WDFW, the lake stocking plans are changing all the time. Look at what is going on in Sprague Lake. For instance, a few years ago there were no Tiger Muskies in Silver Lake in Spokane County. Many listing is recently published books are outdated already.

I think that the idea of listing facilities is a good one. That wouldn't change that much.
