Grayland Beach State Park

Nice to see the Camping Forum up and running. Thanks Mike and Aaron for that.

Our favorite camping location for many many years was Rockport State Park located 8 miles east of Concrete WA on Highway 20. Unfortunately the camping area of the park was closed indefinitely due to diseased old growth trees in the camping area. This place was absolutely amazing with 50 private full hook up sites nestled in the thick old growth forest. What a bummer!

The closing of Rockport State Park forced us to expand our horizons and try some new parks. We ended up going to Grayland Beach State Park located in the town of Grayland which is south of Westport. The park had recently added camping spaces right up against the sand dune which separates the park from the ocean. Grayland Beach State Park camp sites aren't very private like Rockport’s sites were but if you are able to reserve one of the sites closest to the beach, your site will likely have its own trail leading to the ocean. It's a very beautiful spot. These beach sites have water and electricity so long stays require a large black water tank or trips to the park's restrooms instead of using your own. Other than that, the 3 minute walk to the beach is worth the stay by itself.

Right next to the road where you find the State Park entrance, there is a local pub that serves tasty burgers and fries, and Westport is a short drive from the park and offers salt water fishing and charters to those looking to take home some salmon, halibut, tuna, rock fish and cod. You can also set a crab pot at the marina and fish from the many floats or the Boardwalk. You can enjoy some very good eats in Westport as well. One of our favorite places to eat is the pizza house which is on the main road at the bend right before you get to the marina portion of the city. Very good pizza and their onion rings are fantastic. Lots of calories for sure! There are gift shops and a couple of candy shops along the marina so taking the family for a walk there is fun. You can also watch the surfers from the jetty which is entertaining.

Anyway, it’s a very nice place to take a vacation but for the majority of the year, reservations are required. Here are a few pics.

Nice to see some reviews of campgrounds. I used to go there every year.
Had a strange/funny experience in the pub... but it's your thread. It ended with my friends brand new BMW running out of battery power on an incoming tide.
