How did everyone do halibutt fishing? Here's our results

Post by Pradeep » Sun Apr 26, 2009 7:41 pm

Well, my wife, brother in law and I tried all day Sat to catch our first Halibut. Fished Admiralty bay near Fort Casey. No luck what so ever. At the end of the day, we decided since we made the drive from Marysville, why not get a cheap room and try our luck again on Sunday. Did, that and unfortunately same results just a different day. Highlights of course was that Saturday and Sunday were both nice days on the water. There were people catching butts on Sunday. There were 2 boats that were a stones throw away from us that pulled up 50 and 60 lbs! Another bright spot, my brother in law pulled up his line and had a baby ling cod on his line. Only about 8-10 inches but hey, it's the first ling that any of us had ever seen live. Picture is attached. lol.

Not sure if we will try again next week for ling or butt or where we will even try.

How did you all do? Hopefully very well.

Don't feel bad - halibut on the inside waters can be a LOT of pounding away with maybe one fish to show for it. It's pretty tough compared to out in the ocean or even along Neah Bay. But they can be caught, you just have to pay your dues.

I had pretty much the same results at Hein Bank on Saturday. I saw one fish caught about 15-20#. My partner boat was fishing Eastern bank on sunday and lost 2. Guess it was'nt our weekend. I did hook up with a big one saturday but was'nt able to move it and it just did what it wanted to at will. I ended up breaking it off.

Fishing boy,
Thanks for clarifying! Shows how little I really know about salt water fishing. Oh well, We gave it a shot and we'll try again until we get one of these fish. LOL, can't wait to tell the in-law that our ling, really wasn't a ling!

P.
