Is there any good saltwater fishing around Deception Pass in early September? I haven't done much saltwater fishing and I don't have boat so I need to fish a pier or off the bank. Any advice would be very welcome, thanks.

Park down by the State Park nearest the water. You can walk to the pass in a minute w/o having to hike down and back up.I thought of fishing Deception from shore but its rock cliffs and hard to access ,also Id say pretty darn dangerous.Id definately wear a PFD when fishing the area.On a slack tide its so peacefull looking waters but the under tows are very strong. On an out going tide it can be very hairy. At least for me anyways.Landing a fish would be the hardest.Ive seen guys fishing from shore using waders and fly gear for Silvers. There is good cod fishing in June /July.

Hell Yes!!!! (Corenet Bay Boat launch about 1 or 2 miles to Deception Pass and total protection= launch we use her often and hit the Linger/Dinger Season off Lopez Island not September on light gear/steelhead rods and 20 lb test clear lines and small jigs and bait a total blast!!!
Need a thing let me know were in the Islands often Roche Harbor a dandy with the gals and the Islands in the late spring and summer 2nd to none on natural beauty.
Fishing around the pass= PASS we killed it years ago:colors:
I can pin point you productive fishing, camping grounds and this should be a family adventure but have a Tub to support your game these waters even in the summer can get a Greenhorn killed on tides, Undercut Reefs and winds!
Fish on!!!! USE CORENET BAY LAUNCH AND FORGET THE LOCAL AREAS WE FISHED THEM OUT 20 YEARS AGO RUN IN YOUR TUB NORTH AFTER LAUNCHING YOU WILL FIND MAGIC!!!!

If you're on the State Park beach walk as close to the bridge as you can. Big gear!!! Big weight! Big Bait. Cast it out aboput 30 yrds and you'll be in about 125 feet of water. On an incomming tide let it take your gear into the pass. Many Many fish on the walls and spires under the water. It's a beautiful dive, seen and speared some BIG fish. Lings, Butts any kind of rock fish you can imagine. The water moves fast and pulls a lot food back and forth so there's a lot of predators down there. On one dive I saw the biggest ray I've ever seen. It just blacked out the light as it went over head.

Bodo what year was that dive#-o Custers last stand
I have tons of buds who dive the cliffs right off the Bridge current day and the numbers are gone from even 4 years ago and there on this area as we Speak Doug V and his North River tub side cut outs custom diving tub and he is certified pro, teacher and shoots more Ling and more then any diver I know next to me in the late 80's
We Killed bags of Flatties for 6 straight years and wore out 2 sharp shooter spear guns and 3 of my diving buds:colors:
These areas close have been pounded to death by the locals and others and coming in from the Islands there are 25 tubs pushing these Cliffs during lean tides and there almost always skunked Run North almost to BC and others waters.
Just like steelheading, Piers you can walk or park to it put a fork in it!!!
These waters are busy and busting with pressure divers and anglers you must earn it or end up fishless and a very nice walk!
Will have 2 or 3 tubs on the LING and Ding Opener anyone wants a shot at it PM me these things have a seat or 1:colors: :compress: Post up the pics lead the trail to fish Gold all these posts are words until you add some pudding in your adventures:bball:

I would use Coronet Bay to begin your adventure. Even fishing from the dock there at Coronet Bay has a great many species to battle with!

If it's open, buzz bombs in august and september for pinks and silvers at the state park. You wont be fishing alone. If crowds aint your thing , hike down and fish it from the Anacortes side. At state park though, pinks stack up on the beach and makes for easy fishing.

Another very good spot is inside the pass (short drive boat or car) to Ala Spit. Ebb tide show, runs like a river, great fishing for pinks in August & good for silvers in September. For those that like to cast the bug rod, Ala's a great place as if the swings your thing, rather than just cast & strip, Ala's a great place to fish. Of course the occaisional king will climb on and will strip your reel in the heavy current. Lots of fish heading to the mighty Skagit! On the minus tides Ala is also good for clam digging. Not a lot of steamers, mostly gaggers that need to be chopped or ground, but tasty! Reaally close to one of my favorite king fisheries from the 60's & 70's Hope Island :pale:
