Is there anything running? Can we do any sort of salmon fishing in that area between that time? I could probably secure a small boat that can run in decent weather but probably will be banking it.

according to http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/salmon/best_tim ... _areas.pdf there isn't much except a Chum run but I thought I would ask those in the know.

Maybe some other kind of fish?

thx!

You can catch resident coho year-round from the beaches. Just double check the regs to make sure that area is open for salmon, when you go there.

PNP gets pretty good for salmon (coho) from late July thru Sept, with Aug-Sept being best. Cast buzz bombs from the beach and expect a lot of company.

There is no salmon really in there right now. Chum run through the sound in Oct-early December and have already done their thing in the rivers.
The only thing now that is mulling around the sound are native Blackmouth and some returning Springers (kings)

Salmon doesn't open until July 16th in Area 9. Some resident coho might be running near shore, but again, it's not open to salmon fishing.

When the July 16th opener rolls around, expect a lot of crowds. The Area 9 summer king fishery is one of the most enjoyable and productive of any salmon fishery in the Puget Sound. Great weather and great fishing draws in a lot of crowds and expect the 4,000 fish quota for Area 9 to go within a week, possibly even 3-4 days....

PnP and other popular beaches are good for throwing buzz bombs and spoons off of. If your banking it, make sure you go single and barbless hooks. The WDFW will be out checking all the time on the popular salmon beaches and they'll ticket you for not abiding by the single/barbless hooks...
