New Spinning Set-up

Hello All!
Long time listener, 1st time caller.
As you can see from my moniker, I spend my time fishing from a Sit on Top kayak. This year I am finally going to add a spinning set up to my to my gear.
My question revovles around rod selection. To be honest, I spend most of my time fishing the Puget Sound's shallow water (to maybe 50ft). I know it may seem that this should be posted in the "saltwater" section, but I use light tackle and my tackle box is full of bass gear. I target rockfish, cabezon, lings, etc.
I've been looking at a lot of different rods in the store and no matter how many times I circle the rods I keep looking at that....that....that darn Ugly Stick-Lite. Anybody have any experience with these? Any better suggestions? Budget: About a "C-note" or so.
Thanks
