First dig on October 25th. Anyone on this site ever goes? It's a blast and the clams are awsome!

I've heard it's an awesome time but some beaches are tough to even get to with the traffic???

Anyways it's on the to-do and to-learn fishing list..

I'll be there! I've already reserved a room for Friday the 26th through Sunday the 28th to dig at Grayland aka "Twin Harbors".

For anyone who hasn't gone:

The beaches are extremely crowded, especially on the weekends. But it's no big deal, you typically just have to drive about half a mile-to-a mile down the beach to find a good parking spot. It is very crowded but it's not stressful like combat fishing can be in my opinion. The numbers will stagger you, but there's plenty of clams to go around.

Once there it doesn't take too long to figure out how to dig them (or clam gun them). You'll lose (if digging) or smash (if gunning) your first couple, but don't lose hope, it just takes a little getting used to. I like to go about an hour and a half before low tide. The futher the tides out typically the bigger the clams, but in my opinion the medium sized ones are a bit sweeter, and sometimes you need the whole hour and a half to limit (sometimes you can limit in like 15 minutes, sometimes you only get two or three in a couple hours if they're not showing well). I think WDFW recommends going out two hour before low tide? Or maybe just one, I 'm not sure.

Definetely plenty of clams to go around! It's a good scratch for that winter fishing itch.

Traffic isn't too bad, it's get a little crowded going through Aberdeen. The beaches seem to accomodate the traffic pretty well.

Fish-or-man, how'd you do at grayland last year? I usually go at Ocean shores, but last year it was closed so I went to the next beach north, I beleive it mocaplis. Did okay there. I went Grayland a couple of years ago and just got small clams.

Well, I typically go to Mocrocks or Copalis, and really like those beaches. I've only dug Twin Harbors three times before and yeah, the clams have been pretty small .That picture is from Twin Harbors and my friend's holding about an average clam for the beach; it's pretty shrimpy. It's a good thing I'll be there for three dig-days to compensate! The main reason I'm doing Twin Harbors is so I can bum around Westport in the daytime, then clam dig in evening. You'd think there's got to be some pods of decent clams somewhere along that beach though, because although it's hit super hard I think there's about 12 miles of diggable beach there.

this is sort of a "bump". Are you going out for the opener Kzoo? Anybody else going out?
