Northwest Fishing Reports

Any tips for shore fishing in hoods canal, or anywhere in the sound for that matter.
I am after hopefuly some salmon, but I would settle for any kinde of bottomefish, Dogfish not included.

What about a buzz bomb?

ive caught shakers off the Redondo pier (federal way) with a green and silver or green and gold Pt. Wilson darts. if you took a pyramid wieght and herring you would proboly catch anything around, like flounders and rockfish, but you would also proboly catch dogfish. With artificial stuff though you'll never catch a dogfish.

also, if you are fishing off a pier for salmon, try fishing as far to the side as posible, so no ones between you and side of the pier because if you catch a big one you have to fight it till it turns on its side, then walk it to the shore from the pier, that would be hard with other people line out if you were in the middle.

Up by point no point up around Hansville should be good for fishing for salmon soon. Whenever the fish start coming into the hood canal I'd try Hoodsport or the Skokomish River. Hoodsport will have the pinks coming in and the Skokomish will have the Chinook and Silvers, I think they have pinks that run in there too.

Oh yeah and buzzbombs are pretty much the thing to use up at point no point if you go there, Hoodsport you can get the pinks to bite on the buzzbombs but if you fish the skokomish I wouldn't use it, you'll most likely just snag them and won't get them to bite.

Check out the Hatchery Zone in Hoodsport. Be prepared for combat fishing.

A place for you which is somewhat productive and very close is the Des Moines marina. Right now its kind of slow but crabbing is doing pretty well. Salmon will pick up come late august and all you need is darts, crippled hearing, buzz bombs, ya know those types of lures. We only managed one keeper king from the pier last year but we caught a whole bunch of legal sized coho. It pretty easy being as there isn't a size limit LOL. But the salmon will be good until late October early November. Then from November till about early february squidding is fun during the night, but freezing. Then march and April is kind of a perch, bottom fish sort of fishery. But come may the lingcod come on pretty strong. Then were back to july, and the crabbing opens up again. So you can stay pretty busy here all year round. But the salmon season is by far my favorite. Fish the high tides. But depending on what part of kent your from Redondo might be closer. I have never fished redondo, but I heard its about the same as Des moines.

Curly creek in Port Orchard is good in sept or Gorst in Kitsap county should be hitting really soon.Just park behind the nudey bar.

they were towing vehicles if they parked behind the bar in gorst. so watch that.

haha yeah they dont want you taking away customer parking at that trashy nudie bar,since you know they get so many customers.

A great place for pinks, silvers and kings is Bush Point on Whidbey Island. Here it is best to use buzz bombs or a herring under a slip float.

not public... at camp this year. Lucky for me nobody there has ever known how to fish so I shouyld have the whole thingg to myself.

fishing report!


on the first day I went out to a shore section and on my first cast hooked a 2-4lb silver, it ran into the kelp beds and I lost it. So of course after that i was thinking that I would kill the salmon there and for the rest of the week I only got one bite. Me and a couple of friends borrewed a row boat from the camp andwent out and we caught some flounder. Is anyone else doing any good in hoods canal this year?
