edmonds pier for salmon?

Post by ckim85 » Wed May 27, 2009 12:04 am

Was over at Edmonds Pier the other night and a guy mentioned that his friend caught a nice 15 lb king salmon off the pier.
I know it can be done and has been done but what do you use to do this?

I usually just go with a jig and bottom fish for rockfish and such but salmon sounds fun and i am very inexperienced with fishing for salmon (let alone fishing for salmon off a high pier like Edmonds)

any tips will help!

It's a pink year  Buzz bombs should do just fine mid-late summer in that area, not just the pier but also along the beach in certain areas (target areas with steep drop offs from shore, check out a nav chart or topo map to locate these). Try either letting your lure hit bottom and retrieving back up through the water column, or let it sink for about 15 seconds, retrieve a bit, re-sink and repeat. About 90% of the time the fish will hit on the donwfall of the lure, so watch the line closely. I've also heard whole herring rigged under a float can work well for pinks and silvers both. I would also assume that any blackmouth in the area or kings cruising through would hit the same presentation you would use for bottomfish with a Pt. Wilson Dart or similar herring style jig.

From what I've heard fishing from the Edmonds pier can be a real pain in the ass :-# and takes made persistence. Those people who spend serious hours down there seem to be the ones who get the reward.

If you do try it goodluck. I'd recommend looking further into shoreline access other than the pier for Pinks and Silvers, there are quite a few people who know more than I do, I tend to pirate rides in friends boats to find them.

I want to make this very clear you want to fish off a pier or a beer bottle feel free if thats all your choices the pier is a joke for every 100 plus angles 0.5 percent even catch a thing:-$ let alone a salmon, ling or fish.:-$

Do a few salmon come off her yes and I would play the lotto first the odds are stronger.

Many natural areas all over the sound for when the stinks:batman: #-o show to reach them and your skills as a angler will be bottom zero pitching off that pier and I love the 25 plus feet to reach the fish if you snagged a thing other then a pair of tidy whites! :-# :cyclopsan

This area is about as productive as Joes:colors: Gone[-(

We did drop by last summer and do a Pioneer Square pitch and unloader for the suffering tribes of fishless goofs:thumleft: .

Not saying your one if you do this but find the natural points that have dropping slopes that face great tides and baits all over Whidbey Island there at least your fishing and have a anglers chance!!!](*,) :viking: :sunny:

FISH ON!
