Tacoma fishing pier

Post by joshswrench » Mon Jun 09, 2008 7:46 pm

Anyone every fished the pier down on rushton way? I'm still a green horn at saltwater fishing and wondering what you might use going from a dock/pier and what you might catch.

Go to Les Davis to see what they said when I asked. I hope to go to the Point Defiance dock or Les Davis Friday to try and see if there are any salmon.

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

well here in anacortes, we have several peirs to fish of, and i along with another fishing friend i have have fished them and we use herring for catching dogfish. if you aree in a area, where the bottom is softer, my granpa said to use bacon, or ham and you might catch flounder, or black rockfish(greenling) but you maqy want to try using a small hunk of clam, muscle or sandworm.

Wow....That brings up some o'l memories.... You will be most productive using whats natural for the fish you want to target.
We used to fish for rockfish and perch off The Old tacoma Dock, The Old Point Defiance Dock and The McNeil Island Dock and did very well using sandshrimp or my fav..........pileworms.

i've fished the les davis pier in the past, good baits to use are squid, clam parts, and pile worms. ive caught rockfish, kelp greenling, perch, flounder, and octopus from this dock your basic bottomfish set up is a 1 or 2 ounce bank, pyramid, or cannon ball sinker tied to the bottom of the line and 1 or 2 size #2 or #4 baitholder hooks tied about 12inches above the sinker bait em up and go fishin' . good luck

I posted this in Saltwater report also. But for information on bait it has a little bit on what to use.

I fished at the dock at Point Defiance from about 10:30 to 12:30 using a filleted herring and a one ounce banana weight. No bites and didn’t see any follow either. There were thousands of little fish throughout the shore and at the dock area. A guy fishing on the dock said they were chum salmon. Then this big ball of fish boiled at the surface and he said they were herring because they were bigger. All I know is there were thousands and thousands of small fish. One guy was bottom fishing and he caught a 20 leg star fish. The other guy was fishing for salmon, he didn’t have any hits while I was there. He used some kind of jig then he switched to a buzz bomb and as I left he was using a herring plug. The fish checker said that there were 11 salmon for 17 boats that came in, that was about 11am. The several I saw come in looked to be about 8-13 lbs. The guy in the store said they were moving in. In his opinion not close enough to get caught at the dock.
I was at Les Davis from about 3:30-4:30pm using a herring fillet and a one ounce banana weight. No follows, no bites. Everyone was bottom fishing. One person there caught 2 star fish. They have just pressure washed the dock at Les Davis so the wood was sticking up. Great place to get splinters. Don’t take any youngsters there unless they have gloves and are well padded.
I fished on the incoming tide.
