well...was out of WA for a couple weeks and was fortunate enough to have the ol' fishing pole along. oh, and some buddies with a boat. we got out on opener (sat.) at about 4:45am. we were actually within one mile of downtown minneapolis, on an electric only lake. got into two fish about 6:00am first two fish and it was a double, nice!! to bad i got the small one..:-({|= .i got one more small one and the other guy gets a nice one about at 7:00am (9 ft, in the weeds). water was low fifties. all in all four fish, but a decent outing....oh yeah...bobber fishing with live sucker minnow (5"), we set the hooks early, so no bad hooks, and all were released without incident.

on another note....just a general MN fishing update.....

reading and listening to most of the reports throughout the state it sounds like it is a pretty wacky spring/summer fishing season. much like here, most biological activity (i.e. spawning) is at or more than two weeks behind. usually late may and first half of june is pretty hot fishing, but this year people are saying it could peak as late as 4th of july this year, depending where exactly in the state you might be fishing. i think this trend is going on throughout the west and midwest....good luck to anyone heading that way..(PDX maybe..?.?..)

EDIT..i did want to add that i drove through spokane and CdA, and holy cow...lake CdA has to be what...4 feet high..??? i don't see it that often but it looked really high...(wanted to fish it but didn't have time)

Great report Rollin with Rolland. It's always cool to hear how fishn is in other states.
Nice double man.
Boy, to be able to use live bait again. Some of the funnest fishing I have ever done. Who do we have to talk to around here to get that law changed. Can you imagine the bass we could catch with live bluegill or trout fry. :cyclopsan

thanks guys. yeah fishnislife, it would be nice to use live bait out here...much more natural, that's for sure. although sport fish are out of the question for bait (in MN), but i can only imagine how well a small bluegill would do...

it is nice with live bait, but would you trade that law for set seasons for bass/pike/musky?? i'm not sure your past experiences, but some states have set seasons on these fish, to protect spawning. for instance, bass is open from late may to feb., and C&R only after oct. for some parts of the state. likewise, musky is open the first weekend in june until feb. (only panfish year round) i guess this could start a good conversation...

why doesn't WA have a set season (for warmwater species) to protect spawning??? it seems like the smart thing to do

EDIT....i guess it doesn't matter for the tigers....i just thought of that.....
