Clamming is funner then it looks..LOL

Post by cobrar543 » Fri Apr 10, 2009 10:29 am

Went down to Mabana Beach this week with the my two sons Hunting for Clams. There here From Montana for the week. First time for me since I was 10... No luck on the Razors or Butters, but we found TONS of the eastern soft shell's all about silver dollar size. Perfect for eating and they were great! Found em 30 foot from the high tide mark in 8 inches of sand. Warning thou, if you are planning to make a day of it? IT took us 20 minutes to get our limits.. LOL..find something to do with the rest of your day in other words.

Clam- Steamer Clam: 'AKA' soft shell clams STEAM

They are clams that live in tidal mudflats...mostly famous on the coast of
New England, but their actual range extends much farther. Soft-shell clams are edible and can be enjoyed in a variety of dishes, can be eaten steamed, fried, or in clam chowder. 'Steamers', steamed soft- shell clams are an integral part of the New England clam bake.

My wife is from NY, insert Joke here, and she steamed them with white wine and butter and garlic. Heated the pan, inserted the clams and Mussels. Oh ya..got a few dozens of those too..shells and all into the pan, they must be the wimps of the clam world. Took about 3-5 min for all the shells to open...couldnt eat em fast enough. Going to get more this weekend I hope. Taist is very mild. not tangy like the Muscles were. almost like Minilla's that you buy in the store

Mussels, I agree, have that tangy slippery taste. But if they taste like manilla, yum. My son and I were supposed to go and get some razors sunday, but plans changed. Oh well, there is another dig end of month we plan on going to.

No jokes on New York alot of my family live there.Hahahaha they get enough from me.Clamming is great fun and the rewards are even better.I make clam fritters out of the bigger clams.Fritters with a good spiced chutney are hella good. The only thing wrong with clamming is you cant get enough.Hahaha
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

can't beat fresh steamers with the nectar and a bottle or two of your favorite beer.
