RE:Winter Crabbing Results, Anyone?
So, are they still in the eel grass in the winter?? I thought maybe they are in the eel grass in summer to mate. Thier metabolism must slow in the winter, right? And they travel less?? (I heard in summer one crab can travel as much as 11 miles a day!! I understand that is not usually the case) So from what I gather, no more 60-90 ft. like summer, but more like 45 or less?? (or right near shore like you guys said) Are winter sets about the same time as summer sets? (2-4 hours) I need my first winter [keeper] dungie soon.....:bounce:

Yep, seems like they still run around in it even in the winter.Rollin with Rolland wrote:So, are they still in the eel grass in the winter?? Each beach/location crabs different in terms of depth...Some spots in Area 10 I crab, I drop pots in 80 feet, but up in Area 9 I'll drop em in 30 feet. Winter or Summer. And yes, some folks believe they have migratory patterns.....
When wading around at night, I did best finding the sections/patches of eelgrass and similar long, stringy hair like seaweed. The beach I've been crabbing via waders is mainly sand, but there are various patches of that eelgrass or other similar seaweed that attracted the most crab. 90% of the crab I would come across would be sitting in the middle of the grass or right on the outer edge of it. If I found myself walking across a big sandy flat, I didn't find many crab at all.
Don't chase reports...Be the report others chase....

When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.
