raft trolls to fast?

im planning to go to beaver lake in my raft with another member next weekend.
He is saying trolling is effective but even at the lowest setting, my minn kota is waaay to fast.
Is there anything i can do to slow it down? ive even put tryed to troll in reverse but its too fast.
and i rly dont want to put a bucket out and look like an idiot while killing my moter, lol.

When I am trolling flies I just turn it on 1 for a second and then I turn it off until l I stop, then 1 again until I slow. I have caught fish this way.

you might try using a drift sock. It may slow you down some.

How about a smaller motor? I've got little 15lb thrust minn kota that's too small for my boat. You can have it for free.

Search around on the internet/craigslist/fleabay for a Minn-Kota Maximizer. It is basically a glorified, repackaged rheostat that allows for infinite adjustment of the throttle position. One of the secondary benefits is it extends tractable battery time on the water. You may even be able to find plans for one online.

Yeah the bucket is the way to go. I drop a bucket usually. If in doubt, drop a bucket.

As far as slowing down your trolling, try Toni's suggestion, on... off... on... off - I have to do that sometimes with my canoe - works pretty well for me.

I like the idea of the rheostat though - Thanks EastsideRN I will be checking into that!

I troll alot in my pontoon, (row) I have found even with just 10 mph of wind it is nearly impossible to troll slow. Only way to be effective is to go straight at the wind otherwise you are all over the place.
