sell or trade

I have a 13ft smoker craft boat and I want to buy a new Jon boat should I try to sell my boat then buy or trade in my boat

You'll almost always get more for a boat (or car or ??) by selling yourself instead of trading in. The dealer needs to make money on the used item so can't offer you as much as they can sell it for (unless they're really gouging you on the new price). A trade still might make sense--you can lower your sales taxes on the new boat by the value of the trade and don't have to hassle with selling it.

well, depending on what your getting. A 13 ft smokercraft is on the cheaper end. I know alumacraft 13 foot jon boats brand new are well under a grand. Toss it on craigslist and see.
