Northwest Fishing Reports

Can someone tell me how/if I can put some kind of a removable oar lock on the gunwhales of my 14' 2007 Lund?
Isn't there some kind of mechanism made that will attach itself to the top of the gunwhale? I have a completely smooth edged gunwhale. To complicate matters the layout of the boat does not have a bench seat across the middle which would allow a position to row from. Sometimes you find yourself in a place that is just too thick with weeds to use a motor.
I run into these sorts of questions which you would lthink I would just go to the dealer and ask, however the local Seattle dealer has gone out of business. I can always call Port Townsend, but I'd rather just ask you guys.

It sounds like with the seating configuration it would be tricky to row even if you had oarlocks. How about push pole for when it gets really weedy or shallow?

When you say "Push Pole"....... do you just mean any old long lengthy pole? Or is there something that is sold to do the job?

Like a plastic gaff hook. Aluminum pole with a plastic hook on the end. Usually like 4 feet long but you can get extendable ones that will reach over 10 feet....

1st, that is an AWSOME boat.

I think a push pole is your best bet. Look in the Cabela's hunting catolog in the duck hunting section they sell a telescopic pole made for pushing boats in shallow water. West Marine might as well, in the flats of the Gulf of Mexico people push their boats into the flats for tarpon and redfish.

They make push poles just for the purpose. I use an oar, since I barely ever need it.

I don' tknow anything about that particular one. They have others, and local stores probably have some too.

I'd bet you could probably make one cheaper... just don't use wood since it will keep trying to float up on you. If I were you I'd use some plastic shrouded metal pipe cut to my desired length, paint it to match your boat, and make a comfortable grip using some marlin or nylon line. I bet you could do it for under $25.

A aluminuim telescopic pole used for painting would work great too. I used to have 1 until someone borrowed it.
