New boat/motor!

Post by ResQ » Thu May 17, 2012 12:59 pm

Well, I picked up a new boat (new to me) and the motor tossed a rod about 10 minutes into the maiden voyage. Totally not cool. So, the shop I have my boat at has a very clean single owner (infact they sold it to him in 94) Evinrude Ocean Pro 175. I hear its a great motor. Does anybody have any experience with it? I am having them put it on and we are water testing it next week.

How many hours are on it? Maintenance records?? Old Evinrudes can run forever or they can be a headache waiting to nickle dime you to death or worse go the way of your other motor. Note that could be said of any older motor. Bottom line check it out very carefully. Good luck.

aaah, man. That's a PIA, motor quitting on you. I hope you got a good deal on the boat at least! I don't know anything about boat motors, just cars.

Luckily Im dealing with Toms Outboard in Oly. They actually sold this motor to the original buyer brand new and did all the maintenance on it. Tom said it has between 300-400 hours and he took great care of it. Definately is clean. We are water testing it this week sometime.

Say's alot about the seller when they will step up and help you out of a bad situation. They could have very easily looked the other way like alot of sellers might have. Good Luck with the "new" motor. Dennis
