Electric motor help
I am thinking of getting electric motor for my toon what is recommended is 36” shaft 30 lbs thrust and I would like to know what some folks who have one or used one could help me. 1. How fast would it move the toon . 2. I also have a 12’ 6” Zodiac type rubber boat and would like to use the same motor on it what size would be good for both. 3. What brand would you recommend and why ( size and thrust)
RE:Electric motor help
Pontoon boats are light and create minimal water drag, so a 30lb thrust will be more then enough power, in fact, if you get anymore going, you might not have more then one or two trolling speeds. I know some guys here have a problem going too fast to troll on their pontoons, not sure what motor they are using, but 30lbs thrust and a 36" or the 30" shaft will be more then enough.
How fast would it move you? Speed 5 will get you moving pretty good. Probably well over 5 mph.
Yest it would work on your Zodiac too. I use a 30lb thrust on my 12' Aluminum and it does the job just fine. 30lb thrust 30 inch shaft, Minn Kota
I'd recommend Minn Kota. I don't even see any other brands for sale anywhere anymore really. You see guys using real old Minn Kotas that have been used for years. They are dependable, and the Endura series just don't break. Plus, a 30lb thrust/30" shaft is like $110-$120 which is a darn good value in my opinion. Another thing about Minn Kota is taht since they are sold a lot of places, replacement parts and props and accessories are much more available....A definite plus there.

RE:Electric motor help
I've got a Minn Kota 40 Maximizer with a 36" shaft on my 10' toon. Definately won't plane the toon but gets me where I want to go. I have a full size deep cycle battery for it and normally get 2 full days use before needing to put it on a charger. I troll flies a lot on larger lakes/reserviors and if I put in a long day I put the battery on the charger overnight.
