Battery Meter?
Battery Meter?
I am looking at putting some battery meters on the boat. 1 for my 36v bow mount 1 for the kicker and 1 for the cranker. I have been looking on line but was curious if any of you have all ready done this and had any recommendations or could point me in the right direction.
Re: Battery Meter?
Whats your budget? How do you want to mount it/them - in-dash, stick on, round, square, hand held? Separate gauges for each battery or one you can switch between them or show all at once? Do you want marine grade or automotive grade ok?
There are about a million options. If you Google Volt meter or voltage gauge or marine volt meter or battery monitor or marine battery monitor, you will get a bunch of choices ranging from cheap junk to setups that might cost more than you paid for your boat
In the past, I didnt worry about battery voltage. Killed some batteries too. Then I started keeping a hand held DVM on the boat and still have one as a back up.
My new boat came with a volt meter that monitors the cranking battery and my new Trolling motor has a built-in battery monitor. Neither one is terribly accurate but gets me in th aballpark and will let me know if there is a problem developing.
My chart GPS/sonar/plotter now monitors my charging voltage and the house/cranking batteries and does a much better job than the built in meter. I plan to add a voltage sensor so I can see the voltage from the TM battery on the sounder at some point but havnt gotten around to it. I check the TM battery with the hand held meter when I want to see how its really doing.

Re: Battery Meter?
I'd like to wire them up to the dash area. I found some looks to be cheep meters 5$ a piece how ever they look exactly like the 30$ 36v golf cart meters. I am hoping that these will work. If not i'll spend the money for the better ones.
