What is your favorite bait/setup for lake trout?

My favorite bait/setup for lake trout all depends on how I feel like fishing for the day, and the usual stuff.

BOTTOM FISHING:

Typically 4#-6# line w/ 1/2 oz slip weight, red bead to protect knot at the swivel, about 18-24" of leader line to #6 Eagle Hook (or smaller depending on the bites vs. catches) - top the hook with Orange Chroma Power Bait by Berkley & Berkley Bass Attractant rubbed into the bait.

CAST FISHING:

I have a favorite Brown Roster Tail (medium weight) that I like to use in certain areas.

TROLLING:

I have also used 6#-8# line w/ Triple Swivel w/ one 4#-6# leader approx 36-48" long connected to swivel & lure at end then approx 36-48" of 4#-6# line with 1 to 3oz weight. As a suggestion: Let out your line a couple of feet at a time rather than just dropping strait to bottom first. You will be able to determine bottom a bit easier without possibly fouling your troll line/hook leader - watch the tip of your rod it will react different when dropping by hand vs. hitting bottom

I prefer a K 13 to a K16 chartreuse flatfish. I have also caught them on pike lures, hooches behind a size 0 chrome flasher and a jenny fly behind a chrome flasher. Wedding rings work with a worm as well. I've caught them between 40' to 250'. I'd still like to catch one over 20#s. The bigger they are the better they taste and I figure its their diet. If they're under 5#s they taste terrible.

Lake Cle Elum is finally producing. I saw one boat heading back in at 7:30 am as I was heading out. I figure they had their limit. I had three on by 9 am. I lost one at the boat. The biggest was 9lbs 6oz and around 30". The others weren't much smaller. They all ran a couple times. Fish the bottom at around 120' deep.
