Lake Lenore camping?

Post by gpc » Mon Mar 03, 2008 10:49 pm

I was just wondering if there was any camping on Lenore. I have been wanting to fish there for a couple of years now and on the weekend of the 21st it looks like it will finally happen. I have never caught a lohontan cutthroat and it looks like Lenore is a pretty safe bet. I have a small boat but no trailer, its kind of a hassle loading and un loading the boat everytime, so what I am really looking for is a lake side spot. Thanks in advance

There is a resort on the north end of Soap lake, formally Soap Lake Resort, but I think it might be a private membership park now. I tried to find it on line but couldn't. If you call the Soap Lake Chamber of Commerce, they would be able to tell you the name and if it is public. In Soap lake there is a RV Park on the east side of the lake. I don't know if they have tent sites. For those, your best bet would be the state park north of Lenore.

If you haven't seen it yet, look at the Lake Lenore video. I shot a scene showing the main boat launch. You shouldn't have any problems with a small boat.

Cool thanks guys. I left my fishing book in my budys car, so are there any lakes that are close to lenore that would be open the weekend of the 21st? I know that area is just full of lakes, I can stay at Soap lake, but I would rather stay at a lake with fish in it, and I wouldnt mind driving a little bit further if I could stay on a lake with fish in it.

I think that the only close lake that is open in March is Lenore. The other lakes in the area open when general season opens.

I have seen people camp across the highway from Lenore at Alkali Lake. I don't know if that is still legal to do though.

Probably your best bets for camping will be Blue Lake Resort or Sun Lakes State Park.

The closest camping is at Alkalie Lk, where it's free. I believe this lake is open year round. Blue Lake has camping all along the west shore, but you'll be fairly close to the highway. There's a State park at Park Lake, but I don't think that opens till April. There's also a campground at Coulee City on Banks Lake. Banks would be the closest open water if Alkalie is regular season.

Thanks for the help everybody. But it looks like my trip will be postponed for a few weeks. I keep checking the reports on Lenore and it still has ice on it. I would have thought the ice would have been gone by now, and I dont really want to only be able to fish 1/2 the lake for my first time fishing it.

I am thinking Alkalie is where I will camp though. Its one of the only lakes that is open in that area all year and it sounds like it is full of crappie. But if I dont make it down there until after the opener any lake will be game for camping. But I remember Laurent's (resort on blue lake) was pretty expensive before they killed the lake off, and Id be willing to bet they jacked the price up after the rehab.

Fish On! Have you stayed at Alkalie before? Is there a burn ban in that area? Thanks

There is a game dept. campsite at alkalai lake with toilet just north past Lenore. I believe there is a boat launch there into alkalai lake which has spiny ray and trout. Free camping.
