Northwest Fishing Reports

Hello My name is Steve I'm moving to Tacoma Wa. I'm in a wheelchair (heat stroke ) looking for places that I can access so i can go fishing.. Also I have not fished in a couple of yrs so any recomandation on eqipment & takle would be helpful .. A little background I'm from Indiana by way of San Diego I use to fish the river and lakes back in Indiana LMB ,SMB, panfish , catfish , Walleye etc ....

Here is a link to a list of different places around the state. I'm not sure that anything directly in Tacoma comes up. The closest I saw was Mineral lake, and BattleGround lake S. of Tacoma, but read through it. You may have to take a road trip, although there was a listing of some of the Puget Sound piers that are accessible.

here's a link to Tacoma Parks accessability,,, something about the Marina on there, personally I know very little about Tacoma. Tacoma is in Pierce County, google their parks dept also, search the accesibility section. Lots of fish here, fresh, salt. When you narrow down where you'll be staying in Tacoma, check a map, start close and work out from there, computer, phone calls to parks dept city and county and WDFW. Check out WDFW website. Enough info there to keep you busy till you get here.

I believe I have a booklet that shows the statewide access areas and the accessible levels. I'll check tomorrow and back to you.

There are handicap holes with wheelchair access on the Nisqually, the Cowlitz and Bogachiel, and many lakes with docks that are handicap accessible. Here's a link to WDFW access sites: http://wdfw.wa.gov/lands/water_access/s ... unty%20ASC but many city and county parks also have access. I know many up here north of Seattle that do, like Blackman's Lake. But don't miss out on the pinks from the pier, that's going to be a lot of fun!

These guys are right about the pinks, I fished them in MI (but not here yet) and when they're in it's a ton of fun (some days I think you can literally catch a ton).

I'm not to familiar with Tacoma proper, but I know Deep lake about 30 miles east is wheelchair accessible. It holds trout, bass, and some panfish.

This place was designed for handicap people. Pretty sure the guy who developed it had a brother in a chair and wanted others to have a place they could use.
