If I'm meat fishing for trout I use the multi colored lead core trolling line. I adjust by letting another color out until I find fish. I use a 10' - 15' leader and a Carey Special fly, or a spinner tipped with worm or corn, or the old standby frog color flatfish in size 5 or 7.

If you want a cheap down rigger just use an old salmon reel with a couple lbs of lead on a heavy swivel and a down-rigger release clip. Attach to a short 3 to 4 ft pole.....Just make it out of an old salmon pole bottom section. This setup works great. The down-rigger line to use is a 60lb nylon line to give some stretch to the set up and keeps you from loosing all over side if it hangs up. :thumleft: Attach it all to an old pole holder. My brother in law used one like this and it did just fine for large cutts and walleye.
