Post by kantill » Mon Jul 09, 2007 10:04 am

Being somewhat new to the area I keep hearing rumors about west medical being a great place to fish but you don't want to eat the fish. Is this true?

Both are very true. W Medical is a great opener lake and good in the spring. Its shallow and as the water warms the fishing becomes a little more difficult. The lake was dead in the 80's due to the mental hospital dumping its waste water in it. There are no state health warnings posted on the lake, however most people don't like the idea of eating fish where sewage was dumped

In truth, the lake has been tested by the state EPA several times to confirm that the fish are ok to eat. The waste had been treated and there are no harmfull after effects.

Still, the thought of eating potatoes, corn, or any other "organically raised" produce may bother you as well. So think of it, it was either human or animal 'manure' that raised you latest "orgainc" veggies, or the W. Medical lake trout.#-o
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

I love to eat fish that makes my pee glow in the dark. :alien:
Eat away kantill, I have heard people eating out of fisheries that have a lot more problems than something that happened in the 80's.
