Rock lake outside of cheney?
Now that hunting season is over its time to go fishing. My favorite lake to go to is Rock lake but with all the snow over the last 2 weeks I am not sure if the roads are even passable. Any one been out that way?

RE:Rock lake outside of cheney?
I was just down to Rosalia this morning and graders were out working side roads off of Hwy 195. I know 271 (or is it 272?) from Rosalia to Oakesdale is closed and I heard 27 was closed also. Last I heard, whatever road it is between Rosalia and St. John was closed too.
So, yeah, the roads to Rock Lake are probably questionable for traveling especially hauling a boat.

Kinda off topic, do you know if it possible to get to Bonnie Lake from Rosalia instead of going through Cheney?hewesfisher wrote:I was just down to Rosalia this morning and graders were out working side roads off of Hwy 195. Funny, I was just thinking about that this last weekend, and was going to try to take the boat out and find out, just in case. By the time I got the latest snow berm dug out from my drive way, reality sank in and I stayed home.beerbohm wrote:Now that hunting season is over its time to go fishing. I bet Rock would be hot right now.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

Yeah, you can get there by going through Rosalia then head to Malden and then off to Pine City. I've been to Bonnie, and that's the way I would go, but it's been a coule years now so I don't remember the exact route. If you've got a Washington Atlas you can find your way there easy enough.Kfedka wrote:Kinda off topic, do you know if it possible to get to Bonnie Lake from Rosalia instead of going through Cheney?
I bet it is, maybe after this weeks warm up the roads and access might improve. I really want to fish it one of these days, I just need to get over the fear of launching there.Anglinarcher wrote:I bet Rock would be hot right now.

Have you launched there before? If not, send me a pm and I'll give you some pointers. If you have, well you probably already know about the things to look out for, especially in the winter.hewesfisher wrote:I bet it is, maybe after this weeks warm up the roads and access might improve. PM on the way, and no, I've never launched there. I checked it out a couple years ago, right after we got our boat. Just happened while I was there, a guy launched his older Hewescraft and I watched him back his truck and trailer into about 6" of water while his wife peered over the transom of the boat. When she hollered "stop" he got out with hip waders on and pushed his boat off the trailer even though it was only touching water at the transom end.:cyclops: I asked why he stopped and he told me there's a ledge that the trailer would drop off of if he'd gone any further. I know water levels were down at the time, but with a brand new boat, that was enough for me!Anglinarcher wrote:Have you launched there before? If not, send me a pm and I'll give you some pointers. I don't have a problem with getting in the water, or backing into it, but my wife is my fishing partner and she's having no part of that.

Anyone wanting to go to either Rock or Bonnie, let me know. I will go out with you (have launched at both lakes) and help launch, in trade for a seat to fish out of. I have my own gear, and know how to get into both bodies of water.

That would be a smart offer for anyone to take.Gisteppo wrote:Anyone wanting to go to either Rock or Bonnie, let me know. I will go out with you (have launched at both lakes) and help launch, in trade for a seat to fish out of. I have my own gear, and know how to get into both bodies of water.

I hope my PM helped. Launching is not impossible, nor is it all that hard if your boat is not too big, but it does take some care and caution at Rock.hewesfisher wrote:PM on the way, and no, I've never launched there. Yep, your PM helped a lot, but I think you and Gisteppo are both right, probably best to first go with somone who knows the lake so as to avoid the biggest dangers.
My boat is a 16 Hewescraft Sportsman, certainly not at all big, but big enough to need to watch out for underwater obstacles and heavy enough to make a difference when hitting one with the big motor (90hp Merc). :cyclops:
I've been to Bonnie several times, but not since buying our new boat, it is too big to launch and snake up the creek channel. Oh well.
Thanks guys!

RE:Rock lake outside of cheney?
It looks like me and a buddy are going to be heading to rock on monday. I have fished this lake a ton I might bring some chains just incase the launch is fubar. Now as far as Bonnie lake and getting your boat in hewesfisher. I have a Starcraft starfish 176 with a 115 merc and got into bonnie several times last year. Last time I was there was mid to late july. Just keep your engine tilted way up and go at a snails pace and you should do all right. And as far as launching back the trailer deep into the water and as far down stream as you feel safe doing so it does get a little deeper. It can be done and you will get some strange looks from people for having such a large boat in that lake. Good luck

Keep us posted on how it goes Jared, Im wondering where the ice sheet starts. Work that edge heavily for the trout, its been a really productive pattern in the past out here.

RE:Rock lake outside of cheney?
I agree that Rock can be launched on right now, WITH A 4X4, and probably chains.
There is a rough sheet of ice about 4 to 6 inches deep at the launch, but the water is high, cold, and clear. I did not fish, but I stopped by on 1.10.09 to look at it.
Might see me there this Saturday.
