Blue Lake Fishing?

Post by cjrodarme » Wed Jul 22, 2015 12:03 pm

I'm going on vacation with my family to Blue Lake, the one that is near Sun Lakes and Coulee City in Grant County. According to the WDFW theres only rainbows in the lake, but we all know how reliable that is. I checked the reports for this lake, and some claim that there are perch and smallmouth, among other species supposedly in this lake, but there are 4 Blue Lakes in Eastern WA alone, so those could very well be reports for other lakes. Could I please get some info on what fish are really in this lake and how to fish for them.

Also, the WDFW apparently poisons and restocks the lake every 10 years or so. Is this true? If so how recently has is happened

Bass in what appears to be bass spots.... my brother in law tells me the perch fishing is very good off the Soap Lake rod and gun club camping area (northern end). Trout will be down around the thermocline or lower in the hot weather.

That's it in a nutshell.

Oh, some pumpkinseeds also mostly in the shallow southern third of the lake.

Rotenoning will be soon, possibly this fall. If not, the next one.

We were there in April and caught some nice smallmouth in Blue. Largest was around 3lbs, all caught on a 3" grub and 1/4oz jighead. Colors used were motor oil/gold flake and brown/green flake. I would also try crawdad or trout colored crankbaits. I suspect there are largemouth in there also due to them being in Park lake but never caught any.

Fishing has been decent for small mouth and perch, I suggest for trout, crack of dawn trolling with a pink streamer, or an f-4 frog flat fish slowwww use a small squirt of wd-40.. Perch fishing is awesome from public boat launch northern drift to the middle of the houses (pontoon boat on lift) we use Swedish pimpernels green and yellow tip with a small piece of worm. Tons of perch fillet them and use carcass for crayfish, Dont say I said this, but small live crayfish might be dynamite for bass and German Browns. Bonn Appetite!
