Alpine lakes by Packwood (Lewis County)?

Post by fullstringer98 » Thu May 26, 2011 8:56 pm

On saturday My dads side of the family are going to go up to packwood for the rest of Memorial Day weekend. If anyone doesn't know where it is, it is pretty close to white pass i think its called. Anyway, I was wondering if there were any good lakes that my dad and I could hike up to. Lake Scanewa is close but you need a boat. Skate creek can provide but isn't stocked until June. If you know a lake that would be relatively close that would be great if you post it, it doesnt have to be an alpine lake or one you have to hike to. Thanks[thumbsup]

There is of course Packwood Lake, which has produced some nice fish. There is the glacier peaks wilderness that has Goat Lake Beljika Meadows Lake and George lake within driving distance up skate creek road. I spent my honeymoon out there, and I know that Goat lake is full of brook trout. Also there are steelhead in the upper cowlitz that they dump from the traps at the barrier dam.

Thanks natetreat, There are going to be quite a few people back at my grandpas place. I was reading on wikipedia that Packwood lake only has barbless hooks on lures, no bait.

Yea, packwood is barbless selective gear rules. But those trout love a nice kastmaster or fish creek spinner, and it's more fun fishing for 'em that way, you're not just sitting around waiting. Also you can use flies too. There's a lot of opportunity in east Lewis county for fishing. Not to mention all the lakes up in mt. rainier park.

Packwood is a beautiful lake with nice trout. Double check with the Forest Service to check on road access before you go.
