Your Pictures and information are terrific! You mentioned that you have visited some more since you posted these back in 2008, out of all the hike in lakes you have been to, which is your favorite? Also which one is secluded and has a great balance of beauty and good fishing. Basically if you could only make the trip to one lake, which one would it be. Thanks.

If you don't like to hike, or are otherwise unable to hike, Gifford Pinchot has lots of Alpine Lake options for you. 4th of July weekend I went to Takhlakh (sp?) and Walupt lakes. Here are some pictures of the lakes and the areas, and some info.
These lakes are in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Tahklakh lake was TERRIBLE fishing. I saw one dead fish (someone probably chucked it back as it was pretty small) and I heard someone catching something, but I never even had a hit, and that was with two poles out.
Walupt... This lake rocks. If you want to limit out on trout, you can do it here really quick. I caught 9 fish in about two hours. Biggest was 14 or 15 inches, but the lake is above 4000 ft elevation. Keep in mind, it's a selective gear fishery. I killed all the fish on the same wedding ring (red/silver with a red/silver spinner) and one of those mac's flasher things that have the plastic blades.
There was still snow on the ground when we were up there this weekend. Snow in July is just wrong.
Note: Do not stop and eat in Randle. VERY expensive, and very bad food. Specifically, a place with the words big and bottom in the name.

Those are some fantastic photos guys. Sure makes me want to get out of the city.
Bionic, that area is awesome. I hunt NW of Trout Lake. That whole area is beautiful. I've never had luck fishing the few mountain lakes I've tried up there, but was stuck on the bank while attempting, so maybe a floatation device would have been beneficial. Thanks for sharing.

I think that some of you young healthy bucks should carry us old crippled guys up to these lakes. Going down wasnt my problem it was up that killed me. I had leg cramps for a week after that hike on the Mt Loop Hwy.I did feel a great sense of accomplishment afterwards.You guys these pics are stunning.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators,its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Sorry to disappoint, but "Big Bottom" is the name of the valley area that the town of Randle is in. It's a plain old diner with a lounge. Has some really good interior decorating, but no eye candy.
