Out of the 20 coho ive kept this year I havnt found a parasite or tapioca balls in a single fish yet! How have your guys/gals fish cut so far this year? Are you finding the same result as me?

Actually, the second Coho I caught this year(second one I've caught out of the salt ) had it, really bad too. Had to throw the whole fish away
Second one I've ever caught that's had it, first one was last year. 2 out of hundreds and hundreds of coho isn't so bad. But it seems like it's worse over here this year actually. Talked to several people that caught fish on the Sol Duc that had Tapioca Disease.

Last year I had to toss 3 fish with tapioca disease out of 12 cohos I caught, this year 0 for 20, maybe its just a coincidence.

I think it's just bad luck honestly. A few years back we kept 70 coho between my grandpa and I and none of them had tapioca disease, last year it was 1 out of 40. I think it's just bad luck honestly. I know one guy that fishes the same river I do and he caught like 4 in a row that had Tapioca Disease a few years back, and I went all season without any problems.
I wonder if it depends on the river or not? I never fish any of the Puget Sound rivers but those seem to get more fish back that have Tapioca? The fish I caught that had it this year was at the start of Area 9, so I'd assume it was headed to The Snohomish river system?

I mostly fish the snohomish system. Perhaps it differs system to system indeed.

Out of the 54 I've kept so far, only 3 had it. Not bad at all, just a couple balls in the end of the tail section. I have a friend though who has been encountering them a lot more frequently. Seems like 1/3 of his catch is infected with the disease. So far, just the hatchery fish have them. Last year, I only encountered 1 coho with the disease. It was a chunky 8lb hatchery Coho with the disease throughout the meat.

Out of the 11 Coho I have kept this year, one had a single ball in the tail. That was it.

One of the ones I filleted this year had 1 or 2 balls in the meat, but not a serious infection.

Wait a minute. My friend gave me a whole silver last week from the salt. Your saying those white balls arent fatty marbling as you would find in a steak. I ate the damn thing. There was those little white balls all throughout the fish

Ewww... you poor thing... ya thats not fatty marbling.....its puss sacks caused by an infection.

Actually it's their spawn;

They're filled with spores that enter the water when the fish dies after spawning.

I've caught and kept about 20 the last couple years and I haven't seen it. Was on the Snoho.
