Northwest Fishing Reports

Hey there,

Im going to be living in the Smokey Point/Lake Goodwin area this summer from the beginning of July through about the end of August. I havent fished the Stilly before but I want to this year.

Any tips and advice about it would be great! Any favorite areas as well? How is the west side of I-5, is it worth fishin?

Yeah man, I would be glad to show you around some bank access areas on the Stilly. It is going to be a good year to learn that river with all the pinks, they usually get a pretty substantial number up there. Also, I used to fish the Snoho from the shore a lot when I was younger and that is a reasonable distance from the Smokey Pt. area as well, I'd be glad to take you out on my sled on the Snoho once the salmon season comes around. You bring beer, I pay gas!

Cool, Hows the action during July on the river and whats the best fishing for? How about west of I-5?

Pinks in July?

I haven't seen the regs for when the river will be open for salmon this year, but July seems a little early. What about summer run steelhead on the North Fork? It's been quite awhile since I've done any walking along the river, but there are lots of access points; just depends on what you're looking for. I don't know how much beer Matt drinks, but that sounds like a wonderful offer made to take you on the Snohomish. I've seen folks fishing for pinks on the beach by Deception Pass State Park, a bit of a drive, but a pretty area.

I am fairly sure the season opens June 1st just like all the other PS rivers for summer runs. Good luck finding them in the Stilly, its probably not the place to START learning that system, but it is worth a shot. The Skykomish on the other hand puts out good numbers of summers the first 3 of June usually. There will be some pinks showing that early, but it isn't really better until later... I was just sayin. Pre season would be a good time to explore the area and find some good spots for when the fish show up.

Blue stilly, the bridge by the town tavern in Silvana and haller park just out of down town Arlington are my top three easiest fishing spots. Great places to also start with little knowledge of the river. Matt knows all the good spots though! LOL

- Thats all salmon species... except silvers

Hit the water early when you get a chance to get out. Lots of people flock to every open piece of water in the afternoon early evening!
