So I was fishing yesturday and I hear a comotion from down stream. I put my pole down and walk down trail just a lil so I could see. I seen some boat landed and a real big guy pushing a really lil guy around. The lil man is a fly fisher who fishes a spey rod and him and his buddies fish there all the time. Im not sure of his name But Ive seen him there alot. Hes a 55 year old man that stands about 4'8"- 5 ft maybe and weighs around 105-125 maybe. Not a big man by any means. The other guy was Mark Owner and Operator of Chrome Brite Guide Service. A real piece of work from what I can gather. Hes over 6ft and is about 245 or so. Im 5'9" and 240 this guy was bigger then me. Im not sure of the whole what started it thing but i did hear the fly fisherman asking him to stop castin so close to his line. Fly line is highly vis and you can see it clearly. Well that is unless your Mark maybe? I mean I had mentioned to a buddy of mine what had happened and he said Mark is blind in one eye. So maybe he couldnt see that line. But the actions he took from that point on spoke loudly. I couldnt stand seeing this happen any more so I finally stepped in and cleared them an arms length away from each other. I told Mark that I wasnt sure what this is about exactly but hes got a whole river to fish maybe he should get on his boat and fish it. But really picking on a guy that lil while you have someone on your boat? Your a new guide trying to charge Clancy prices when you cant produce Clancy fish? In my opinion instead of Chrome brite this guy should call his guide service Dull Turd cause when your with this guy youll hear potty mouth, catch crap and youll see an A @ thats close to 6'3". Dont let this crap even get the guide service started. Let people know there is guides out there that are class acts and this guy is far from class infact just a few letters away from it.

Sounds like quite the tool. Is the little guy going to call the police? Are you going to be a witness? An thought anyway.

Id be a witness if asked to be on this. But the lil guy didnt ask for any info from me instead cut out after only fishing for about an hour or so. He was trying to leave when Mark had kept on trying to get in his way and pushing him around. I fish there alot and have met alot of people. I talk to guides and fellow bankers and Ill run into both of these guys again. I just hope this crap stays off the area I fish and honestly would love for people to just think before signing up with a guide. Try to find a reputable guide. There is names that people can tell ya about. Clancys, R K s, the Eli Ricos of the fishing world the Swaneys etc... These guys know there thing and make it happen. Ive seen it alot of you have seen it. These guys deserve props. But there is some that dont. And Ive seen that first hand as well.

He's going to have a tough time making a living treating people like that. I know that if I was a client and a guide pulled something like that I'd let him know about it in a hurry, and when he put his hand out at the end of the trip looking for a tip I'd just walk away.

Acting like a 4 year old is always pathetic. However, I would be curious to know how it all started. If the little was talking trash and said something like "come on over . . ." etc. than he would deserve a good ass kicking in my opinion. Size is irrelevant, don't talk if you can't back it up. I'm not saying that is what happened by any means, but just wanted to throw in my 2 cents as I think the world is filled with people who talk big, flip you off on the road etc and don't realize that you should be prepared to back it up if you challenge another man to a fight. Sorry for the off topic rant, I think I forgot to take my medication today. If somebody lays their hands on me than they should be prepared to have their ass kicked.

Regardless of how it started if your a professional act like it. If your trying to make a business out of something then act like its a business. Everyone is a potential client and the customers always right. Thats the way to look at it. Even if someone flipped ya off its a business. So RD I agree with you if ya put hands on me then its on. But when you run a business its gotta be handled differently.

I don't see why you would ever take your boat ashore to get in a tussle with a shore angler. He's got the whole river why not just stay out there and fish. If he wants to fish RIGHT ON TOP of the fly guys line there is not much the bank angler can do, not like he's gunna swim out an get him.

Something must have happened to make the captain of the boat come ashore. If it were me I would just shrug it off, continue through the drift, and move on to another spot for my next pass.

Yep there's a few good guides and then there are the rest. I can't imagine what a little guy fly fishing could possibly do to a big guy in a boat but then you just never know his disposition...... There are an aweful lot of guides that need to learn a sevility. Most if you asked them would say we're out in "Their Office.".

Yeah, many are pretentious a-holes that like to take up a lot of real estate casting.

How did the tables get turned from a guide to slamming fly fisherman?

It really doesn't matter what the situation really was there is no excuse for that kind of behavior. There was a day when honor and courtesy meant something. It doesn't look bad for just one guide it looks bad for all guides. This is very sad as many guides work very hard to make a living at something they love. Flyfishers have a tough time competing for water and fish on a river with boat traffic and lots of bank fisherman. So while the flyfisher has just as much right to fish there he must have known it wasn't going to be easy or peaceful. In closing the guide is lucky he hasn't been arrested and sued and thanks to a good citizen the flyfisher didn't get the tar kicked out him.

Cause gear heads trump fly flingers 10 to 1, duh!

[lol] [lol]

I googled Chrome Bright Guide Service and it appears the guy operates out of Oregon. Why would he drive all the way to WA to fish when he's got better fishing in his own state?

doesn't matter what kind of fishing the little guy was doing, unless he was casting 1oz weights with his fly rod at the boat (yeah right) than the guide should have been the bigger man and just pushed through. He is the one running a business and needs to be the bigger man and just leave it be and keep trying to put his customers on fish.

What's up with the cheap shots at flyfishers? I do believe after reading this story that there is plenty of bad behavior to go around. When you start labeling people beware that the finger your pointing isn't in the mirror.
