imagine how much salmon needs to be taken to supply the whole world, you think when people order salmon in a restaurant they think "hmm was this fish caught on eggs, or did someone rub line through its mouth and rammed a hook into it?" no, cause catching is catching, all depends on your preference of style .

Good points zefs. I get hatchery fish are meant for harvesting, man I get that. I dont like the gillnets as much as anyone. but hear me out. I stopped fishin the river of DENIAL a long time ago when I learned that fishin with corkies and yarn was flossing. I stopped fishing this way because it wasnt sporting to me anymore. I spent alot of time fishing away from the meat fisheries and watched the really good fisherman getting fish with bait. took me awhile but I got it down. Gettin a willing biter is so much more memorable and rewarding than forcing a fish to bite. it aint hard to get em to bite and like I said if you are willing to spend a little time I can show you how. my buddies have converted a handful of diehard flossers into legit fisherman than you realize. so when people say who cares how someone is fishin I say poppycock. yeah I know the tug is the drug but you get a fish to hit a spinner or plug or free driftin some bait or roe under a float you might find yourself standing in the river of BOOM and not worrying if da fish is hooked in da mouf because everytime it will be.

and nothing will kill the bite more than a bunch of guys pounding a section with a bunch of lead and ripping leaders tryin to rip a hook into a fish.

true I witnessed that first hand on the bogy last winter for steelhead, every cast a fish than all of a sudden a local snagger comes down and shuts off the bite and then 30min after he limited out we started to get back into the fish. But I think skok fish are so used to it that the only thing that scares them off the bite is people throwing stuff in the water and other stuff like that becuase I normally fish in between some guys and will start getting solid hits on my eggs within 3 cast, I have left the skok ewith a limit in under 2 hours during mid day while others have not even touched a fish and I too have semi converted some people down there in to believing that those fish do actually bite bait, now I just need to get a couple on spinners and spoons.

yeah man I dont mean to pick on your bead style of fishing because I know first hand they work. its the guys who not necessarily use a long leader but you will see them cast to where a fish is and let it drift and then just rip. what they say is the bead keeps the hook closer to the bottom. they arent tryin to get any biters. thats why I love the OP man those fish arent spooked. i'll be getting a driftboat next winter. goin on a hawg quest.

this is why we all come here. to learn right? gear chuckin, bait fishin, float fishin, lure fishin. I cant say what take is the best but to me is feelin a steel chompin on some sandshrimp. I could fish like that all day. only thing is sandshrimp aint cheap. I guess fishin jigs is killer but I dont have the patience I like feeling the tick of the bottom.

90% of the places I fish the fish have their bellies touching the bottom so the beads allow my presentation to be right on their noses unlike a corky that will rise above them but all those lures have a time and place in my book just some have more time than others.

Yeah I hear ya, I had to go to shorts as in the middle of the night they turn off the AC from 7PM to 6AM and that made for a rather warm night but I know what you mean! The part that really bothered me was for as educated as the people are there, they are absolute pigs. I mean even rudimentary picking your mess after you make your lunch or a cup of coffee and I won't even go into the umbelieably poor aim in the rest rooms. I walked in one day and there was this guy (wearing a polyester shirt and slacks, you know who) just standing there peeing all over the wall, not even trying! Go figure..........
No sandals for me! gotta be real shoes.

When I was in the Marines Corps I was at a bar one night and had to use the head... I get done and start to leave and 2 naval officers who were also in there said " in the navy , they teach us to wash our hands " to which I replied " in the Marines, they teach us not to piss on ourselves " and walked out.... :)

That's not even the worst, In the building I was in they had to close the shower because (Again, slacks and polyester shirts...) would use the showers at work to save water but they would $#it the showers while washing so, no workouts or runs at lunch. It must be a cultural thing as many bathrooms in the Far East are just a trench in the floor with a shower over head, covers all the bases.... And they would take all the TP, not sure why on their salaries and its one ply gas station fair, almost feels like it's waxed.... Discussing!

Oh yeah and my dad told me that one about 45 years ago with one difference, he was in the Navy. Still a good one every time, I've used it myself. Glad to have you out there, keeping the masses honest.

By the time salmon reach the river they have no digestive track. If they strike your presentation it is out of anger or annoyance. So they will strike it but not on a consistent basis. And if you trying to "snag" salmon please at least try to get it in the mouth. Don't be that guy that lands 12 salmon but cant keep a single one because he hooked them all illegally!
Just keep fishing
