Cowlitz Steel Report??

Post by Eglseder » Sat Jun 18, 2016 4:55 pm

Hey all!

I'm headed down to the cowlitz Monday night and fishing Tuesday and maybe Wednesday. I was wondering how the summer run has been going so far. Anyone been fishing recently? My buddy and I are hopefully gonna get our fix. He has never caught a steelhead and I just started fishing for them last winter. Any reports would be much appreciated!!

Also, I am taking my kayak and my buddy's float tube....are there any restrictions on sections of the river that we can't float and fish from them?? We will be going to blue creek area to start and if that doesn't go well, head further downstream. Thanks!

Float tube is not a very good idea on that river. Down stream a ways but not at Blue Creek and not Barrier. Your buddy will have a very sore butt and back if no injuries. Best just plan to fish from the bank.

Just came back from blue creek area. Pretty slow still as it is transitioning from winter to summer. There's a chance to get one if your lucky and in the right spot but I would personally wait until July. Things will pick up then. as for a float tube on that section I wouldn't recommend it. I would wait for approval of noaa and fish for sockeye on the skagit. Should be a good run this year or just hit the sky for steelies as soon as it get approved which I hear should be by the end of this week
