Coho Rod
Im going between an Okuma Celilo 8'6 Medium Action 8-17lbs or a Fenwick HMX 9'0 Medium Light Fast Action. Both are spinning. Throwing lures or bobber and egg on Wallace, Snohomish, Cascade, Stilly. Anyone use these or have a preferred rod?

Re: Coho Rod
Dont have experience With either of those, have heard bad reviews on the hmx sensitivity wise.
Re: Coho Rod
Reviews from where? From what it feels is really sensitive. Its a Medium Light Fast action.

Re: Coho Rod
go to sportco and by a lamiglas x11 for $65.
not a fan of okuma at all.
have a HMX and its a good stick. the x11 is hard to beat for $65 though.

Re: Coho Rod
I've had an x11. They are good for the price but with my discount I can get the hmx for the same price

Re: Coho Rod
i would buy a clarus then if you get a discount. Fenwick's warranty is a bugger. at least with lami they are local and you can get a quick replacement. clarus is over the counter replacement.
Re: Coho Rod
Only Clarus we have is in casting. Im a spinning guy.

Re: Coho Rod
since i don't know where you work i don't really know what to tell you other than they make spinning rods; i have one. if you work at a sporting goods store i would just order one in. makes more sense to me to get what you want and not settle for what's readily available. but that's just me.DannyL wrote:Only Clarus we have is in casting. Dougs Boats in Woodinville. But we just put in an order so they will be on the next order I do.

Re: Coho Rod
I had that exact Okuma Celilo. Wasn't impressed with it. I used it for one coho season and then replaced it with a x11. It's not really a bad rod, but it only worked okay on the smaller fish. I lost a lot of big coho cause it couldn't turn them in the fast water, with the x11 I have no problem what so ever. So I personally wouldn't go with the Celilo. I know guys that like them quite a bit though. I just wasn't a fan of it personally, and thought it was a little too light compared to other rods. I've seen a lot of people have trouble landing bigger fish with it. Works decent for smaller rivers, and smaller coho though. As for the HMX, I've never really heard much about them or used one myself so couldn't say.
Re: Coho Rod
I got the HMX with the option of full exchange for a Clarus. The HMX just feels good to me.

Re: Coho Rod
Thats all that matters. Are you guys open on sundays? And do you have plain, unpainted jigs? I need some half ounce jigs to tie up some coho stuff.DannyL wrote:I got the HMX with the option of full exchange for a Clarus. The HMX just feels good to me.
Re: Coho Rod

Re: Coho Rod
I have owned all three, I personally would go with the HMX. I bout the okuma, it wasnt horrible but I broke it hiking one time. I then bought the HMX to replace the Okuma and fish the day lights out of that rod! That rod had easily over 100 fish on it. I broke the HMX on a tree or something and got the claurus to replace it. I was very unhappy with the shimano myself. It felt like I was literally holding a stick. I took that back and stepped into the homewater world and havent been back sense. So I guess the Shimano was in the end a great rod since it lead me to amazing sensitivity and unbeatable power.
Re: Coho Rod
I have a 9 6 HMX medium, moderate fast action. Very, very nice. Sensitive, casts a mile, has plenty of backbone as well. The TAC handle is awesome as well. Very quality rod. I highly recommend.

Thanks to those on this subject. I bought a 9' Berkley Air medium action for my spinning real. I tried all of the others too. I liked the Claris as well. Berkley has an awesome feel. I'm real happy.
