Where to go fishing this weekend?
Hey
Making a family camping trip from BC this weekend to Deception Pass. We met some super friendly anglers last year at Holiday Market that recommended fishing humpy's last year by the soccer field.
Any recommendations for what to go for or where to go for this weekend? Just scanning the WA fishing site and fishing reports, to see what the regs are showing for openings.
thanks!

Lake Cambell, and Pass Lake.
Pass Lake equals fly fishing only, selective gear, etc. check regs. will need a float tube, etc. Cambell lake more forgiving regs. but of course CHECK REGS. Pass lake equals much more rewarding experience.

Heart Lake and Erie are also in the area just minutes from Campbell lake. There is also Whistle lake but I have never been to it. Pass Lake is catch and release, fly fishing only, and motors are prohibited. Kayaks, canoes, pontoons, drift boats, row boats, float tubes, all ok at pass lake as long as you don't have a motor. Cranberry lake is the one inside the park. Good luck!

Re: Where to go fishing this weekend?
I've been visiting west beach Deception Pass the last few days for coho, sockeye or kings.
So far nothing. Caught my first silver there last year around the 12th of July.

Just a reminder regarding Cambell lake. It is super shallow. As I recall it is about 10-12' in most places, with the deepest part being behind the ilsand, and this was 22-24'
Considering our weather, that means awfully warm water for trout fishing. The bass I'm sure are happy though.

Re: Where to go fishing this weekend?
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, pretty amazing to have a lot to choose from in a pretty small area.
I think will try casting out at the beach the first day, then make a stop at a couple of the lakes.
Shore bound, with kids, so looking for family friendly spots (IE no big long hikes lol)
Weather looks great for this weekend

Good luck and let us know how you do!

Thanks for pointing that out...I guess I misunderstood the request. Good luck and fish on!

I think that the OP was looking for places that are close to where they are camping. Most of the other posters have already nailed most of the action in that area. You'd have to look at the regs, but there is a ton a beach at the park where you can cast a line for salmon species. There is also Cranberry Lake located inside the park and I have heard that there are some nice sized browns in there if you are lucky enough. I would also give Heart Lake a try (about 10 minutes north of the park on Fidalgo Island) if you want a relaxing day of throwing dough baits. There is plenty of bank access at Heart too because there is a trail that goes around the entire thing. Not sure how it will fish as I usually hit it up earlier in the season, but I usually do pretty well here and the fish always seem to be a nice 16"-20". I have a few more lakes that I could list, but it's easier found here (page 2, the long post):mizm05 wrote:head to westport on saturday and let's do some surf perchin'!

Hopefully that helps, let us know if you want any help with tackle/techniques...Good luck!
