Hey so I've done a lot of salmon fishing on the lower chehalis where the wynoochee comes in. I know trout, steelhead, and sturgeon also make their way up to spawn. I've also heard about some bass in the sloughs and backwaters. Just wondering if anyone had heard of bass fishing in the chehalis river.

Shhh, this is a secret.

Actually, back in like 2009, there was an article in the Fishing and Hunting News about this. Not much pressure and some very nice fish. I do not remember the month this article was in but I do remember that it was the issue that had Tag Watson on the cover with an 11 1/2 and a 8# largemouth, I am pretty sure.

There are bass in there. I dad used to fish it around Centralia from the kayak. I haven't fished for them in a long time, but I hear that a good bass fishermen can catch some dandy's if they give it a try.

I have never fished the river but I have fished that lake just north of Chehalis that you can see from the overpass on I-5 and it had some nice bass in it. My son and I launched a canoe from roadside access and fished a couple hours. My best bass was about 3 1/2 pounds.

Fished a slough off the Chehalis near Oakville from my tube once. Did pretty good for numbers...several fish to 3 lbs. Been wanting to go back. I had that article that arniejl spoke of...that's why i went to check it out. Emailed the guy that was doing the fishing from said article and he said you really needed a boat with a jet drive to get to the good spots. It has since flooded so who knows what it's like. I'm sure they are there
